Social Networking

Social Networking sites requires that users ability to easily learn how to use the site. It also helps to communicate with some friends and relatives that lives a 100 miles away. A social network is made up of individuals that are connected to one another by a particular type of interdependency. Pete Cashmore once said, “Privacy is dead, and social media hold the smoking gun.” (“Privacy is dead..”). Meanwhile on social networking, many people used it for advertising and entertainment but some people have suffered from cyber bullying.

Firstly, social networking used in many ways such as entertaining people and advertisement. Social media also helps music industry. Jessica Farrell said, “Social Networking offers a way to communicate with your fans on a daily basis.” It is true that it helps some bands and singers to get many fans by advertising their albums and concerts also by communicating with their fans on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Another benefit of social media advertising is the immediate results it can provide. Because of the immediacy of social media, companies and organizations can experiences a large swell of website visitors, new customers, or Facebook fans all within a single day, depending on the effectiveness of their ads. This type of viral activity can be great for events and product launches. However, the biggest downfall of social media advertising is the cost. For some targeted campaigns, competition can be very high, leading to high rates for clicks on social media ads or sponsored tweet impressions (views). For certain industries, the cost to run a viral campaign of this magnitude can be significant, up to thousands dollars per day. Because of this, social media advertising on a large scale may not be a viable option to small businesses. While locally-targeted campaigns on Facebook can usually be quite affordable, a small business is less likely to purchase a nationwide

    In his article, “Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted.”, Malcolm Gladwell illustrates why social media is not an effective tool in organizing social or political activism. Throughout the essay, Gladwell describes multiple examples of protests and how much more they were effective without social media. The protests leaned towards being stronger, more organized, and the people participating in them were more invested and had stronger bond to them.
