All the 3 texts are about Education and social mobility. The big debate is about students who have parents with low incomes. These parents have problems paying for good educations such as oxford university. The prime minister of the UK finds it sad that many clever students won't have the possibility to get the education they want, even though they have the intelligence to go far in life. The fees they have to pay to into decent schools are high, which forces students to take jobs while they're taking an education. They are trying to fix this problem and the gap between the 'rich' students and 'poor' students have become even bigger. Many of the students who want to go to big and prestigious schools, often take class at summer schools. The conclusion of the three articles is that students who have parents with lower incomes, should be able to get into the big educations if they have the IQ to attend at the levels the school require.
Comment on the following statement from text 1; "At school you wouldn't let on that you are clever. The others look down on you."
This statement is about summer school. Students who attend at summer school find it partly embarrassing to attend at summer school, in the way that it's taking part in the summer vacation. Classmates might start bullying the once who attend the summer school. This is a typical teenager thing. There are many things which you hold for yourself, for an example a boy won't tell his friends that he has been watching every sex and the city episodes during the weekend. Same goes for summer school, some people will start bullying since it's sad to go school in the vacation, compared to traveling or partying for an example.
