Social Efficiency Ideology

The Social Efficiency Ideology has the purpose of creating individuals that are ready to live an independent life. People supporting this ideology believe that education is a process that should prepare individuals to appropriately function in the community. This ideology sees schooling as the main tool to help develop mature adults that are ready to have a career and can be productive members of society. School is the place where children come to learn the skills and procedures they will need to have a job and to learn how to appropriately function at home and in the world. This ideology helps gear education in a way that supports all students and keeps in prospective the future of students and the skills they must obtain to become successful adults. These skills take into consideration the need to appropriately function in different aspects of life; including career, home and society. This theory goes hand and hand with our current school curriculum. My district implements the common core state standards and the main goal of this curriculum is to have students become college and career ready by the time the graduate high school. This curriculum is implemented from kindergarten to high school and the different skills build upon each other. Different subjects address different skills and since students begin school, they are introduced to the concept of college and career readiness. Social Efficiency is aligned with the curriculum we follow in all subjects, including elective classes. At the primary grades students are becoming aware of what it takes to become independent self-sufficient adults. As they get older they make the connection between the skills and strategies they are learning and the careers they want to have when they get older. As they reach high school, they are able to select the high school they want to attend, depending of what profession they will like to have when they graduate high school. In some instances, they have the opportunity to take college classes while attending high school. This will provide the opportunities to experience college life and to take extra credits that will count towards their college
