Social Cognitive Theory Analysis
Albert Bandura’s social cognitive theory essentially looks at and views children’s behaviour to come to be as such through witnessing interactions between other individuals as well as through various forms of media (Rathus & Longmuir, 2015). How the above can be used to analyze/view John’s situation in terms of the challenges of the new-found academic and social demands from prior can be the following. In looking at how social cognitive theory may perceive the discussed client’s academic demands, there are many scenario’s one can point to. One such prominent instance, involves the recognition that in certain subjects the individual is not studying at a level parallel to his peers. Thus, where come’s questions from the client such as, “why don’t I go to core with my class?” “Why do I stay down here?”

With that being said, the perspective may be used to view the given situation in the following ways. In focusing on academic demands, generally, the successful interaction, as well as just the simple existence of the suggested systems arguably determines John’s success or failure academically. To explain, for instance, in the scenario, that John’s guardians are involved and aware of what goes on in school, if possible, in seeing where their child struggles academically they may be more inclined to hire or at least inquire about tutoring services. At a lesser extent even, at minimum they would be aware of something like their child’s needing of physical assistance w/ writing. Likewise, but as it relates to an exo-system such as a school board it is the existence of Special Education programs like Physical ISP program that children with applicable challenges can attend

    I have selected this theory primarily because I believe that a great majority of our learning during the course of our entire lives is achieved by observation. Bandura’s social cognitive theory is a learning based on the ideas that people learn by watching what others do and that human thought processes are central to understanding personality. While social cognition experts agree that there is a fair amount of influence on development generated by learned behavior displayed in the environment in which one grows up, they believe that the individual person is just as important in determining moral development. People learn by observing others, with the environment, behavior, and cognition all as the chief factors in influencing development. These three factors are not static or independent; rather, they all thrive off of the other. According to social learning theory, modeling influences learning primarily through its informative functions. Those observers (children) retain a symbolic representation of the modeled behavior, which then serves as a blueprint for the behavior. We all essentially learn by example. We may not necessarily need to imitate the example or carry it out, but we learn by example nonetheless. Observational learning incorporates four components, attention, retention, reproduction and motivational processes that help to understand why individuals (children) imitate socially desirable behavior. Attention, being the first component, parents teach children through observational learning throughout their lives. By paying attention and observing children learn such tasks as tying shoes, washing dishes and driving cars. It also has its negative moments (as I mentioned earlier) primarily when children imitate behaviors that they’ve seen on television or in other social engagements.
