When and where exactly did soccer start is a question that has no precise answer to it. You can easily say that this popular game has been played for more than three thousand years. But the soccer played today was established in 1863. In October 1863, eleven representatives from London clubs and schools met at the Freemason’s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to control the matches amongst themselves. Soccer is one of the simplest sports in the world. This may be the reason why it's the most popular sport in the world. Here you will find the basic soccer rules to play the game. The rules become more complicated and technical with the level of play. When playing soccer you’re only allowed 11 players on the field from both teams making a total of 22 players altogether. Offside is determined when the ball is passed to the player, not when the player receives the ball. A throw-in is taken to restart a game after the ball goes out of play over the touchline. A throw- in is taken by a player from the team, which did not touch the ball last.
