Snow On The Monster Slide
During a particular recess in third grade, it had started snowing. It had been snowing on and off for the past 24 hours. The kids would put on their snow pants and boots and carefully head outside as it was icy in many places. Many would rush to a side of the playground, where someone had an idea to make something even more fun. We had something that was commonly known as the monster slide, as the opening had a design as a dragon’s mouth. The idea would make sliding down a lot faster, and a lot faster means it would be a lot better. However, that wasn’t the case. I, along with two of my friends, wanted to go try out the “improved” slide. At the bottom of the slide, there were a bunch of kids putting snow on the slide, as going through the

Overlaps Beware Falling Ice a little. This is Lynn's story, who we meet in Beware Falling Ice. Paul had to say good-bye to her two years earlier when his wife (who had given them permission to be poly and play together) had a mental breakdown. (NOT cheating, they'd had permission to be poly, and that's in the past and had happened before this book opens.) Now, he's back, divorced since his wife refused to get help and uphold her promises to him, and wants to make amends and regain Lynn's trust. Meanwhile, Lynn had literally hit Powerball, and travels to South Dakota with her friend, Terrie, to help Rachel's brother Justin (from Beware Falling Ice) move. She finally calls Paul and flies him up to have alone time with him and talk it out. But…

The playground is not the same anymore. The big kids can share their toys, or push us off the swing set. But the same problem our mommys and daddys had when they were little kids is still a problem all around the playground-- I was told that toys do not come from Santa, but from our parents.…

Icy roads are a common occurrence for many during the winter. But if you’re not extremely careful, these conditions can become very dangerous very quickly. This was the case with Ethan. He was driving down a street when he hit a patch of ice and began sliding towards a stop sign that he crashed into. When police arrived, Ethan was arrested for speeding as the speed limit was 35 miles per hour on that particular road. There are two people who claim to have caught the crash but one says Ethan was speeding while the other says he was not. Ethan also never slowed down before crashing into the pole because his foot caught under the pedal because the floor was covered with trash which trapped it under the gas.…

I observed three little boys on the climber and there was some unsafe action happening. Nick the little boy in the blue shirt and tan pants was climbing up the climber using the steps and wooden part of the slide with a wooden toy in his hands. There was another boy who was climbing up the climber walking, pushing a wooden toy up with him. The third boy was climbing up the steps. When Nick got to the top of the slide he slides down really fast. The other boys did not wait, they rushed down all fast with wooden toys spread across the front. Nick ran from the slide to a car where another child was playing with it but he took it over. He did not talk to the child just burst in and started placing his cars on the rack to slide. Nick was doing parallel play with the children in his…

The series Twilight Zone is a show that combines science fiction with society. Every episode ends with a shocking, unexpected twist. “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” is an episode that informs society about the fear of prejudice and hysteria. In this episode, a loud shadow in the sky passes through Maple Street. The shadow is actually a meteor. Unexpected and strange things start to happen like the electricity and cars turning off. The people who live on Maple become very curious on what the meteor has done to the neighbors living on the street. A young boy named Tommy tells the adults that everything weird happening is because of the aliens from outer space, which he read about in a comic book. First the adults refuse to believe a child, but then they unconsciously start pointing fingers at who can and cannot be aliens. People were getting blamed for doing normal things such as insomnia, looking at stars, and experimenting on a radio, but then the neighbors would exaggerate and make it sound suspicious, strange and unusual. As the episode continues, the adults become paranoid and start to lose their minds. This twilight zone episode reveals to us that the real monsters in society are ourselves.…

The Wild One, Roller Coaster. Linked cars that move together in turns, flips, and drops, supported by wood or steel. Each car holds two, passengers are strapped down in the seat, holding on to a safety harness. What!? How on earth can you rely on a one-inch wide “safety harness” to separate you from a total disaster? It was insanity. It was death-defying. It was surreal. “What’s wrong with your face?! There’s nothing to be scared of, I’m riding with you.” To my brother, roller coasters were the most exciting things in the Amusement Park. The three of us walked closer to the ride, gazing up at the bleary passengers going up the inclined rails. Drop. Screams and hands were high up. Intensely high up. Everyone on this ride was being tossed around with such brutality and severity, like fruits in a blender. Seemingly, this excited them.…

As my friends and I all hopped into the black Honda Pilot that belonged to my companion Shubh’s father, we awaited that the sluggish and extremely slow ride to Shubh’s humble abode would soon be over. Due to the weather conditions, we could only go 40 miles per hour on the speedway. I was sitting in the middle seat of the middle row, squished between my brother Puneet, and coincidently between another young fellow also named Puneet. We were way too busy clicking pictures of the snowy wonderland that Everett Mall Way had become. Enjoying ourselves, we felt like Odysseys’ on the island of the lotus-eaters. We didn’t want to leave that place because of all of the amusement of the snow we had. Suddenly, the black SUV lurched to a quick stop, flinging everyone in the vehicle forward. We all soon discovered that the sudden stop was because a very numbskull young man had thought he was hilarious. We watched in frustration as he giggled by not being stunned at the slightest. He was a lucky man that our truck had 4 wheel drive, and that allowed him to get away for his mischief unharmed. Proceeding further…

Everyone’s face shone with joy and the children shook their parent’s hands from side to side screaming happily. The sweet smell of fluffy cotton-candy tickled my nose as I entered the park. “Ooooh!Ahhhhh!” The cries of joy and sounds of machines whirring never seemed to stop. Even though there was lots of waiting with endless long lines, laughter was always in the air and they seemed happy together.…

And doing that, I saw a kid. His eyes were shining brightly, a wide grin spread across his innocent face. He was so excited and awestruck at the same time that I have to stop and watch him. It turned out that he was about to ride an escalator. That was all it took to render him in awe- nothing fancy, nothing out of this world. Maybe it was his first ride, maybe his fiftieth. Maybe it didn’t matter.…
