Snow: A Short Story
As I sit on my couch watching the snow furiously fall from the sky, my mind wanders to a time where science could be the only reason and not be judged or questioned about it. As I thought about this I randomly exclaimed to my good friend, “If you think about it science is the only logical explanation for everything that happens, take the snow that is falling outside for example, it is falling because the weather dictated it fall from the sky.” My friend retorted, “Yes, but couldn’t there be a greater figure out there above the clouds making it snow.” I shot back “No, snow is just frozen water, that froze as it fell in the form of rain. Scientists have proved that a long time ago, as water evaporates it turns to clouds and once that cools down it falls as rain, and if it is cold enough it will freeze into snowflakes.” To this he replied, “Well I don’t think that is …show more content…
Since God is creator of the universe, the planets and the sun, then by the transitive property he would also be the creator of the snow.” I took this into consideration and thought about it before I responded, “God is the creator of the universe and the planets, I’ll give you that, however God would also be the creator of science and reason which is why snow is just frozen rain, plain and simple.” After that I drifted back off into my own thoughts and decided to consider the snow once more, and I realized the science can be applied to all of life, I only have to wait for everyone to realize

The overall structure and plot of the story plays a part in how Wolff viewed his own life within the characters. It opens with a simple yet intriguing statement: "Tub had been waiting for an hour in the falling snow" (Wolff 1). Immediately, this hook does its job drawing the reader into the story and making him wonder what is going on. In the same paragraph we find that Tub is walking down the street, carrying a rifle and seemingly, shooting the breeze. But then a car comes from nowhere, nearly killing Tub and forcing him to leap off the roadside. Inside the truck, Tub's friends, Kenny and Frank, wait laughing at the apparent "joke" that they had just played. Tub doesn't seem quite as amused, stating, "You could've killed me!" (Wolff 5). Then, the three friends begin to make their way towards the woods to go hunting for…

Sixth graders, generally curious people, learn about so many new things and attempt to make sense of it all. They may notice the overlap of religion and science and have many questions pertaining to these two areas. Phyllis noticed this and began to question how faith and science go together, or if they do at all. Particularly, she was curious if scientists pray, and if so, what for. In order to attempt to find an answer for Phyllis, Einstein shared some of his past experiences and knowledge, along with his own view on the situation. Einstein answered her in a letter by telling her scientists don’t pray but instead believe in the laws of nature based on a sort of faith.…

One of the world's greatest scientists to have ever lived, Albert Einstein, won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. Already famous and a household name, he wrote a letter replying to a sixth-grade student named Phyllis Wright in January of 1936. This context made Albert Einstein the speaker, Phyllis Wright the audience, and the question and the answer to it, the subject. She had originially asked him if scientists pray and if they do, what for. Einstein responded saying, that it is tough to pray for something science related when science is based on laws of nature. However he continues saying, not all of those laws are set in cement and that believing in their existence takes some what of a faith. Next he describes that many dedicated scientists believe that there is something bigger than human kind that is responsible for the laws of the universe; but that that religious thought is much different than that of a younger person's, like Phyllis herself.…

Danger levels or no danger levels, Snowbird tickets were quite expensive; so when we showed up to find a number of the main lifts closed due to the wind, we were not about to just turn around and go home. There still remained quite a few lifts that were not shut down, even though we could see the chairs swinging in the wind. My brothers and I honestly wondered why they were shutting down the lifts considering the wind was not very intense. We had snowboarded in much harsher weather and actually looked forward to the challenge of forcing our way against 20 mile an hour winds. The wind picked up to twice that speed once we were at the top however. The first lift we decided to board was called The Peruvian Express which rose from 8,110 ft. above sea level to a 10,518 elevation. This was the second longest lift on the hill, the first being closed much to our chagrin. It was always our tactic to get close to other skiers in order to hear the normal conversations of where the snow was good and where to not go. As we approached the line to the lift, we could quickly tell from the conversations that the conditions were on the harsh side.…

When watching the last video, “Chasing Ice,” I got to see more of an explore side of ice. With watching “America’s Ice Age” I get to see more of the scientific side of things. How scientist can look at ice with mysterious marks and see evidence of past floods, or how they can look at mysterious markings in rocks and see the movement and direction of a past iceberg is incredible. It makes you think what every day ordinary people like myself, overlook. I will say since I have started this class I look at the trees, the sky, and landscape of my own community differently. I constantly find myself thinking of the unbelievable way our world was formed. I might not completely and fully understand it all yet, but it is…

    Creation Myth

Long ago, the weather was just warm and the grass was just green. Every person on earth was happy the way they were, and the way everything was. God was always trying to bring new things into Earth, to complete its perfectness. One day God had this big feeling that he needed to create something for Earth and his people. But what could it be? Everything was already so perfect. So God asked and angel named Jack to go down to Earth and figure out what was missing. Jack went down and searched and searched, he disguised himself as a human and asked many children and adults, “If you could add something to our earth, what would it be?” everybody’s answers were the same. They all said that there was no needed change. Jack reported back to God and told him everything, but God still didn’t agree. He thought and thought of different ideas every day. One day, He caught a cold, and He couldn’t stop coughing or sneezing. Even when He had this cold, he still looked over Earth every single day and tried to improve it. But right when God was just about to give up and say the Earth was perfect enough, He let out the biggest strongest sneeze anyone could imagine. His sneeze was so powerful that it blew all the clouds onto the ground onto Earth and made them stay over top of the grass and cover every single thing on Earth in soft white stuff. When God seen this, He was appalled. He thought he ruined everything. But then a bright idea came into Angel Jack’s head. He said “Well since Earth has only warm weather and green grass, what if these clouds turn into cold soft ice and the weather becomes cold for half the year?” God thought this was a brilliant idea, so He did what Jack suggested. He turned the clouds and weather cold. He decided to call the clouds snow. He then told Jack to go check it out and see how the humans reacted. Jack once again went down to Earth and disguised himself. He asked all the children and adults what they thought of this…

    Have Science Found God?

Over the past few centuries, science can be said to have gradually chipped away at the traditional grounds for believing in God. Much of what once seemed mysterious, the existence of humanity, the life-bearing perfection of Earth and the workings of the universe. Scientists believe that the universe is not populated by mysterious, incomprehensible forces that control our lives and destinies for some unseen purpose. Rather, aided by science, we control our own lives and define our own purpose.…

We are gathered here today to discuss the near future of the world. We are joined here today to save that planet, we call home. A planet in a big crisis. A crisis which some people call global warming. A crisis so big that no human being will survive, if this global warming goes on. If this global warming goes on, will the world we know today, be another tomorrow. But what if that is some kind of rubbish the climate experts and the politicians try to make us, so called “normal” people, believe? I believe that the global warming isn’t a crisis, but is some kind of rubbish the climate experts and politicians try to make us believe. I believe that Mother Earth and all her creatures will never, never, never succumb, and they will never disappear. And you might think, “why doesn’t he believe in global warming?”, and I answer you, “because it never has existed”. According to some American professors, Earth’s average temperature increases about every 100.000 years with some few degrees, and for about 100.000 years ago Earth’s average temperature increased, so it fits perfectly into the cycle. If that isn’t enough for you to believe what I say, maybe what I’m going to tell you now will. Before every ice age the temperature will also increase with some few degrees, so this increasing temperature could also be a sign of a new ice age. According to some other professors, there will go about 12.000 years between every ice age, and for 12.000 years ago there were an ice age, so a new ice age could soon happen, which I believe. So once again, this fits perfectly into the cycle. In the last 50 years there has been snow in almost every country in the world, only a few islands in the Pacific Ocean, a few countries in Africa and Southeast Asia hasn’t got any snow. Do you believe me know? I hope so, because you have nothing to be scared of. Mother Earth will never succumb. We will grow old together, we will get kids together, we will live happy together, no…

I loved my first son, but I never thought much of my first wife. I divorced Elizabeth and married my second wife, Pauline. Pauline was great and I moved with her to Key West, where I lived on and off for about 10 years (Shmoop). I completed a majority of my life writing in this home and became very successful during this time. As always, I became bored with my life and decided to travel to Spain once again to research bullfighting for a nonfiction book I wanted to write. I published Death in the Afternoon. This book was nothing special, but I did have fun doing it (Literary Cavalcade). After this publication, I continued my adventures and traveled to Africa for ten week Kenyan safari. Oh, how I loved this continent. This was something I truly did love. “My subsequent trips there inspired many works of fiction and nonfiction, including the 1935 book Green Hills of Africa and the short stories "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and "The…

When applying scientific approach, one assumes that various processes and events we observe take place due to natural causes instead of some divine forces. Moreover, science is precise, and the matters of morality, spirituality, and holiness lie beyond its areas of interest. Also, often describes any systematic field of study or the knowledge gained from it. We have been using science to help us find unsolved clues or used it in solved clues such as dinosaur bones, mammoths, mummies, for weather explanations, earthquakes, etc. The use of science removed gods. Before science was brought to the world, there were many gods, mostly for mother nature such as, rain, sun, wind, and so on. Furthermore, we no longer turn to god for rain because science has answered that. We only turn to god for questions science can’t answer such as, when will we die, where will we go? Although there is proof that we go somewhere after death.…
