Snapchat is a relatively new smart phone app that revolutionizes the way people communicate. Although it does not completely replace texting or calling, Snapchat is a popular form of interaction among the youth today. The app is designed to send pictures for up to ten seconds and then disappears completely. How long the receiver can see the picture varies based on the senders choice and the app only allows for a line of text thus leaving the interpretation to be derived from the picture sent. The app itself has been around since late 2011 and gained the most popularity in 2012 to the present. Most apps and games that come out for phones die out within a few months of the release date but there is something about Snapchat that contributes to the reason why this epidemic shows no signs of slowing down. Some argue that it is addictive and distracting, as most smart phone apps and games more. The app has a lot of controversy surrounding it since day one. The developers of the app created snapchat with good intentions which is completely the opposite of the way younger kids are using it. Snapchat, regardless of how entertaining it may be when used properly, is a dangerous smart phone app. Teens send pictures with the mindset that Snapchat deletes the photographs however the app is not perfect. Even though snapchat can share a quick glimpse of someone's plans, the app is a dangerous because pictures can be undeleted and restored, receiver can screen shot the picture through smart phone utilities, and the infamous phenomenon of sexting is made easy through the time limit.
It can never be assumed that the pictures sent through Snapchat are truly gone forever. With today's advancements in technology, there are utilities that can undelete computer files that have been dragged into the trash and using similar utilities, deleted Snapchat pictures on an Android device can be restored.
