How many of you have just memorized certain thing of a subject in order to get a good grade on a test, just to get it over with? But, you never though back to it. I believe a test should not define if a student is capable of being superior. "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid". First of all, some students may be extremely good at a subject and understand the concept, but they may still get a bad grade on a test. On the other hand, a high test score does not always stand for a very strong personal ability. Lastly, not only those who get very high test scores can achieve success.
To begin with, some students can be very well at a subject, but still fail the test. Not every student is good at taking tests but can be good on hands on material if they understand the concept. For example, in my case, I am very good at math. Although, there are times where I just blank out because I’m too nervous about what I’m going to get on the test and don’t actually pay attention to the test. When students get nervous they tend to second guess themselves and then that causes them to pick the wrong answers which get them points off. I find testing difficult because the way they explain the question. My hypothesis towards test is students shouldn't be judge by failing their test but should also look at their class work and intelligence they have.

Lastly, not only those who get very high test scores can achieve success. When you’re older, your test grades from middle school are most likely not going to matter to you. If it does, you need to know that people with average test scores can still get into good jobs in the future, and they will still succeed somehow. Test scores only stands for a small part of one's smartness. Test scores are a reflection of your daily study. A good examination results indicates that you study hard, know how to go ahead

The current test based system is a joke to the students who only care about what they receive on the exam. Especially in High school, everyone’s trying to get into the best college they could. Grades are all that matters to colleges and kids will do what they need to do to get them. Once they have them, they no longer care about the material they needed to achieve those…

Do you hate staring at a computer/ piece of paper for more than two hours and answering questions? I am sure most people would answer “no”, and that is why standardized testing puts more harm than good in today’s world. Standardized testing causes a lot more problems than usual. It used to be a part of life, but now it’s causing kids not to go to college, and it’s causing kids to have a level of stress that shouldn’t even be allowed. People all over are stating that they give a false overview of who the student actually is, and in the end, these tests won’t get you anywhere in life. It’s important to many people including students who are taking the tests, teachers who are preparing the students for these tests, and of course the parents who have to deal with all the complaints from their child about these tests. This is a pretty important issue today, because so much is riding on these tests. If you do poorly you won’t get accepted to the university you want, or your teacher could get fired because of your performance. Although some people think standardized testing is just a part of life and it teaches students that it’s not okay to fail, these tests give a false interpretation of who the student actually is. One score does not tell you if that person is an outstanding individual or not. These scores might help you get into a better university, but when it comes to a career later on down the road, employers don’t look at what you got on your SAT, they look to see if you are best fit for the job, and whether you are a hard worker and would bring the company many positives, and I think colleges should focus on that same idea.…

Being a student who has taken the ACT and SAT, I agree that standardized testing is a good way to prove a student’s intelligence and that it does not discriminate. By analyzing previous points, we could come to a common ground to make testing more individualized for each student by way of online testing, but at the same time measure a students intelligence. “The Best of Both Worlds,” written by Jack Schneider, Joe Feldman, and Dan French, informs of a way in which teachers pull kids at random times to “amass a body of evidence and experiences so they can develop common and research-based grading practices within and across grade levels, departments, and schools…. ultimately creating consistent expectations of standards performance levels with a grading and reporting system that reliably and accurately reports that performance.” By understanding the beliefs of supporters, it is clear that the main goal is to provide a test that demonstrates how well a kid will do in college.…

The information that they know might be different from what’s on the test or they might not be familiar with certain information of the test since they’ve never heard of it, and so they lose points for something they had no control over. In the article ‘Standardized Testing: Good point and Bad’ Maggie says that a 5th grader she tutored didn’t know what a recipe was and if a test were to ask or mention a recipe she would be at a disadvantage, because most 5th graders know what that is. There’s no way of knowing for sure that every child being tested has the amount of background knowledge needed for the test (Margie, 1). It’s not that the students aren’t smart enough, it’s just that not all of them will know key information needed for the test. In the article ’12 Vital Pros and Cons of Standardized Testing’ it says that there isn’t a test that can address all he factors that accurately measure what’s been learned. There’s no way to adequately compare the types of knowledge that each child has about a subject especially when their environments are different and so the students are more likely to retain information most important to them. Students socioeconomic class, different cultural background, and their geographical locations all factor into ow well they would do on the test (Lombardo, 1). There’s no way students know all the information needed from the test, but this doesn’t mean they’re not smart it just means they haven’t heard of it before, and so their abilities shouldn’t be looked down on because of…

Students are the ones, who should take the test seriously, the most. It influences and determines what should come up next for the students. As an individual student, the test scores will determine rather or not if he/she should move on the next grade. However, if it is for seniors in high school it should determine rather or not to get the diploma. If a student is making very high scores on every test, that individual should be moved on to a better rated school.…

Even though students taking high stakes tests are suppose to be educational for the student’s future education. It is only going to impact the students negatively. There is always going to be different points of views when it comes to high-stakes testing. The students are being taught to the test and not encouraged to use their critical thinking skills. We all know that teacher’s performance is not 100 percent positive correlation with student’s performance. There is always going to be a student that just doesn't care about school, this person will not try regardless of the teacher's efforts. There will also be student who simply won't be able to understand the material. Try as they might, the teacher might just not be able to make the information understandable for some students. What’s more, if teachers judged by students performance, they may only use their time and energy to teach smart students and ignore the students who traditionally score low. According to the survey of Washington post, responded by more than 1250 teachers among the USA, more than 70% teacher claimed that they will prefer to teach students who easier to get good grade if their performance is only based on students’ test score. Teachers should be rate by the academic quality, teaching skills and classroom…

I remember stressing about test throughout school, and then college. My students’ main focus should be learning and fully understanding the information, instead of learning how to master a test. I have seen throughout the years how much emphases are but on these standardized test or test in general. I do feel that assessments are important, but I do feel that formative assessments are more beneficial to me. I want to know that my students understand the information while I am teaching, instead of two weeks later when they are tested on a whole chapter or unit. Most states are given standardized and I will prepare my students for the test, but I want to focus mostly on the content and not stressing them out over a test. Some students aren’t very good test takers, which I wasn’t one when I was growing up either. I can relate to students who know the information but freeze up when they take a test. When I create my syllabus I will rate my summative test as my least percentage for their grade. I want them to know that homework, practice, projects, and participation are really important. If I have students that are really smart, they may not feel the need to participate in class and on projects because they know they will ace the test. On the other hand I may have students trying their best at participating and completing homework assignments, but just perform poorly on test. If my expectations are high of them when…

In conclusion, standardized testing doesn’t accurately measure the academic ability of the student, and it does not reflect what’s being taught in the classroom on a daily basis. Therefore, it’s not a good use of time and education. The administration of these tests should be discontinued for the benefit of both the student and the…

Along with different teaching skills, I believe a test should not be required because the student may perform differently than the test shows. Some people may believe that the score of the test will show them how the student will perform in colleges they apply for. Being a poor test taker but efficient student, I disagree. Some students are not capable of scoring well on a test no matter what; these students usually have to try harder and know more than an average student. Although the test scores may be low, some of the students have enough motivation needed to succeed in higher colleges. The higher colleges recommend high ACT scores, which is not fair to bad test takers. It is not fair to discriminate these students from their natural nerves and anxiety over testing. Some students that do not…

So many restrictions come with taking a test that will affect our futures for better or for worse. This is one of the reasons why students around the world go through a lot of stress causing them to do whatever it takes to pass these tests such as cheating or taking performance drugs. Stress is psychologically and physically harmful. We shouldn’t have to stress over a test that won’t give us feedback on how we can improve our test…

high school career, they should not have to take a required test to graduate. The students have the opportunity to graduate and pass classes with normal grades, the standardized tests are just causing the students stress. These tests are judging the students intelligence by one essay and a couple of math problems. They do not have enough information to judge the student. Michele Forman says, “I don't think a simple pencil-and-paper test is going to capture what students know and can do”(Demause). Students who have worked hard their whole life, with passing grades,…

Standardized tests have become a recent controversial topic across the nation. Americans strive for a great education system, but fail to realize that testing is the main issue. They are believed to be a simple way to evaluate students from all different areas. However, there are countless faults that cannot show truly show students’ ability. Standardized tests in the United States do not accurately measure intelligence and should be modified to prevent issues in academics.…
