Sleeping Beauty And Violence Essay

Disney’s 1959 film Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent, the main antagonist and evil fairy, is frustrated and offended when not invited to the christening of Princess Aurora. As a punishment and attempt for revenge on the king and queen, she places a curse on Aurora so that on her sixteen birthday she will “prick her finger on a spindle of a spinning wheel and die.” Wrath the punishment or vengeance as a manifestation of anger. Of all vices that surround the world, violence is shown to be the most influential. Such vicious act is due to numerous reasons and it is a characteristic of people from all walks of life and age. The way someone was raised or the experiences they have faced could be what molded these beliefs. What one person may think is right; the other may feel is wrong and this is where we face controversy. The types of violence people encounter can be physical, sexual, emotional or psychological. In today’s society, people are trying to practice the beliefs of having good moral values. What makes people act out in the first place? There are numerous factors that are responsible for violence in today’s society.
