Being a part of a team is something that an athlete should not take for granted. Being considered a true teammate is the goal of any team player. He who puts the team before himself at any given moment, at any time, on any given day, is a characteristic of a quality teammate. A teammate should possess many qualities which make him have a better connection and a better bond with the team. Every team has leaders and followers, as well as hard workers and the non-workers. These titles show that a team is a diverse group that must gel together and become one unit. The great Kobe Bryant once said, "I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning …show more content…
Certain leaders have been through different situations in their pasts which give them experience in how to deal with the task at hand. A leader is confident at all times. Having confidence in the team makes the members of the team feel that they are believed in. When trusted, teammates are like brothers. Leaders are like the red skittles. It is sweet, but also bold. When a person may think of Skittles, the red color of the package is the main trademark of Skittles. The sweet sensation makes everyone want to eat the red one. Others strive to be leaders. Some may have had bad leaders in their past, which is a driving force as to why they may want to hold a leadership position. There are many different types that are better than others. The legendary women's soccer player Mia Hamm once said that "I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion." Hamm was said to have been the greatest teammate that has ever been a part of USA women's soccer. A team is a true reflection of its leadership. Leaders and hard workers should be praised for their efforts, and followers and non-workers need to learn to figure out their role in order to make their team successful.
