I totally disagree with the whole idea of Daylight saving. It was introduced to Canada about 100 years ago ago and it is now being continues as an eight month ritual. This whole idea was introduced to Canada during the World War I to save coal as it was useful in the wars. Till now the whole point of this idea is to conserve and save energy but in fact we are actually wasting energy. Studies by the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research have proven that despite its intended purpose, it is wasting energy that is meant to be saved! Losing one hour of sleep is really a huge thing for many people. It makes us less productive and worse still, productivity is unaffected when we are given an extra hour sleep several months later. After people…

Due to rising gas prices store policy on employee work hours will be changing. Because of this problem store hours will be amended to cut back on company expenses. To remedy this problem, stores will now be closed on Sundays. Also, work days will be shortened by 2-hours a day, the store will be opening one hour later and closing one hour earlier on Monday through Saturday. For full time employees and managers workweeks will be changing from the usual 8 hour work days, five days a week to 10-hour days four days a week. I understand that the extended days aren’t all that appetizing but not only will it benefit the company but it will also benefit you. By working extended days this benefits you by being able to cut down on the amount of days you commute to work therefore cutting down on the amount of money spent on gas and it will allow for more personal time which can be spent with family and friends.…

In The New York Times article, “New Guideline Will Allow First-Year Doctors to Work 24-Hour Shifts,” authors Gina Kolata and Jan Hoffman explain what the new guideline will entail and how it will affect patients and their families. The new rule will not affect the current standing that residents can work no longer than 80 hours a week. While some people are against the longer shift, it may actually be better for patient care. Evidence shows that the shorter shifts did not improve patient care, but rather disrupt it when the shift was over. The new guideline will allow doctors the ability to take full care of their patients. This new guideline will be beneficial for patients’ care.…

Many jobs today work around the conventional time schedule, such as working 8am to 4pm. The human body comes built with a biological clock that keeps everything in sync. One may ask what a biological clock is. This paper will explore the effects that are caused by working shift work. Shift work can be defined as “a system of employment where an individual’s normal hours of work are, in part, outside the period of normal day working and may follow a different pattern in consecutive periods of weeks” (Dictionary,2009) . Working shift work may cause many negative effects in many aspects such as sleep, family and health. Studies by researchers from ‘The NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL of MEDICINE’ show that people who worked shift work had a higher amount of reported vehicle collisions. (Barger, Cade, Ayas, Cronin, Rosner, Speizer & Czeisler, 2005). With shift working having many issues it may make one re-think whether it is worth the toll it takes on the body. This paper explores all of the major issues that arise from working shift work.…
