Sister Bernadette's Barking Dog Analysis

Kitty Burns Florey in her essay Sister Bernadette’s Barking Dog, reminds herself of the days of her childhood education when she made something called diagram sentences. Florey enjoyed the diagraming sentences and she perceives that her skill doesn’t benefit people and it has no application. Florey uses images of roads, maps and signs, and transportation to show the importance of the journey of diagraming sentences over the finished product an d that means to show the importance of the journey regardless of the place.

Florey compares diagramed sentences with roads in order to tell us of her experience and facilitate the idea of diagramed sentences to be understood. She begins to characterize the way Sister Bernadette produces diagrams sentences
