Sister Aileen Trainor Research Paper

It has been said “age is merely a number”. That is certainly true when describing Sister Aileen Trainor. She has lived a full and gratifying life and she is not done yet. She is an amazingly witty, smart, and spiritually connected woman who has shown those around her that age has no limits. It is her sense of humor and astute perception of when to use it that puts patients, family members, and fellow caregivers at ease, often providing tremendous comfort in times of emotional and physical distress. Norman Cousins once said, “utilize laughter to create a mood in which the other positive emotions can be put to work for yourself and those around you” (Cousins, N. ). Sister Aileen Trainor was born October 18, 1938 in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. She is the youngest of five children born to Canadian parents. She was raised in a devout Catholic family of Irish and Scottish descent. Four of the five children in her family received a calling to serve. Oldest brother, Leslie Michael was a monsignor. George attended seminary and later,
Joseph’s Hospital in Victoria, B.C., Canada. It wasn’t until April of 1971 she would begin her long career with what would later be Peacehealth. Many of her best and funniest stories come from her days on the Urology unit. Other specialties and roles include working on the Oncology unit and serving on various boards associated with Peacehealth and the CSJP. During the course of her nursing career there were many people she was influenced by and looked up to. One of those individuals was Sister Monica Heeran, the Administrator at Sacred Heart Medical Center. In the early eighties, she was asked by Sister Monica to head up, what would be the first of its kind within Peacehealth, or in Eugene, and in 1985 the Risk Management Department was born. It is in this department that she continues to work today as a Patient
