Sir Thomas A’ Becket was born on December 21, 1118 in Cheapside, London. He was a very educated kid and was born into a merchant class. Some years passed and his father introduced him to Theobald, the Archbishop after starting his adult life he was a city clerk and an accountant. he was the Archbishop of Canterbury,until his devastating death on December 29, 1170 at Canterbury,Kent. He was hold sacred after his death and made saint Saint Thomas A’ Becket. Sir Becket served 8 years as an Archbishop. Before Becket became Archbishop he was very loyal to his friend Henry. He would advise him and he was very intelligent with his actions. Becket was also known as a lover of wine, good horse rider. He always had good intentions with Henry
Becket refused to agree, knowing Henry’s temper he decided to fled abroad for his own safety. Becket later on, returned and asked the pope to excommunicate the Archbishop of York who had taken sides with King. Henry found out and the trouble began. The list of things that I found shocking in Edward Grim’s witness were that he was not only a witness but he also helped Thomas Becket so he wouldn’t get killed, and Edward almost got killed due to helping him out. When Becket went inside, the monks who were glorifying God had left to help shut the doors of the church so the knights wouldn't get in and kill the Archbishop, but eventually they had to open them. He had received 3 blows in the head, and on the last one he received, it was very crucial for him. But when they started to attack him with the swords he had said that “...I am ready to embrace death”, and he was ready to die for the Lord. In 1173, three years after his death Becket was canonized by pope Alexander III. On July 12 1174 Henry humbled himself with public penance.
