When a family splits, separates, divorces or a child is born out of wed lock for whatever reason one of the most difficult decisions to make are custody arrangements. Over the years the government has shifted its views from the child’s mother being the best fir for primary custody to “the best interest” of the child. What’s in the best interest of the child consists of both tangible and non-tangible things. The necessities include the ability to provide food, shelter and a a safe environment are important but also the stability of the parent psychologically and their mental health also begins to become part of the importance to the child. The person…

There are four main parenting styles, permissive, Authoritarian, Authoritative and Uninvolved parenting. Permissive parenting is very relaxed, there believe is children are capable of making their decision on their own with some parenting advice. Authoritarian parents have high expectations for their children their also very strict they like their kids to follow completely. Authoritative parents are strict, and very loving. Authoritative parents involve a delicate balance of expectations and demands in a fair and responsive environment. They are open minded about rules and issues, they will listen and consider the child’s opinion and viewpoints. Uninvolved parents neglect their children. Their children are emotionally distance…
After doing this research, I have come to comprehend a lot of things lone parents are going through due to either the policies or being a woman. These are affecting lone parents in many ways, such as, low paying jobs, health, and not able to balance their work place demands and family domain. I discovered that the more single parents and their children age, the more their needs increase. Single parents are often “co-signed” to low paying jobs because of their low level of education and work experience, which I tapped from the previous research paper I did before this. My thought about social policy that surrounds lone parents is the inequality job pay between men and women, and less opportunity given to lone parents seeking employment. This…
The job of parenting can be a gratifying experience, but it can also be overwhelming at times. When a child is birthed, the notion of feeding, clothing, and providing for them is a fundamental awareness. Although the basics of child rearing are common knowledge, rarely are parents told the techniques for raising a productive child. Decades ago, it was routine that the father worked while the mother stayed home to care for the children and the household. In this era, there are some extenuating circumstances where parents cannot totally commit to monitoring their children. They may be forced into single parenting, they may be required to work more than one job, or they may have too many children which would render them unable to properly supervise the child that needs the most supervision. On some occasions, these unsupervised adolescents may turn to substance use for various reasons. Some adolescents abuse substances (dependent variable) because of the type of supervision that was provided by their parents (independent variable). In this case, the question by which this research is…
Do you think women are choosing to have children unmarried? In some instances that is true, but most of the time it is a mistake. Today one in three children are born to an unmarried mother. Researchers like Kathryn Edin and Maria Kefalas took a bold step and wrote an article that gives the different points of view about being unmarried with children. In Unmarried with Children, Kathryn Edin and Marie Kefalas, use personal credentials, statistics, external sources, and cause and effect to appeal to the readers’ credibility, reasoning, and logistics to convince them that many single mothers might have been better off if they had finished high school, found a stable job, and married their child’s father first.…
The rate of single-guardian families has duplicated in the past three decades, yet that rate tripled sometime throughout the 1900 and 1950's. Separation moreover is not a late wonder since it must be more fundamental in the eighteenth century. Among various changes around then, people had less control over their adult married youths in light of the fact that there was little land or other property to obtain and the essentialness of wistful reverence extended. Families are diverse, yet in the meantime are amazingly flexible, disregarding different troubles. They adjust with normal nerves and guarantee their normally weak individual the disabled, ill, old, or young. They overcome monetary related hardships. They handle routinely hard times and…

Families are a unit of interconnected individuals that work together to promote health and well-being for one another. Beliefs, values, and culture help to create the distinct characteristics of each individual within the family. A child rearing family was willing to be interviewed and share the internal relationships of their own cultural values. The family was informed that questions would be asked about different aspects of their life, that the information would not be shared with anyone except for the instructor and that no names or other identification would be used in the paper. The topics…
Many families, especially families with single parents, are struggling to maintain just the basic necessities. Forcing the parents to make tough decisions such as trying to find basic housing and how to put food on the table. Food choices that are inexpensive tend to all be convenient type options that are unhealthy and hard on families health. Unstable housing leaves no place for a child to truly call home and makes going to school even more trying by constantly uprooting kids to change schools and make new friends. All these factors put family life in an increasingly stressful situation. If the parents were together before this makes it even less likely that a marriage will be able to pull through, creating even more instability and stress for children and…

Raising children is a major job that takes time and patience. But imagine being a single parent, raising a child on your own. According to, Custodial Mothers and Fathers and Their Child Support: 2007, released by the U.S. Census Bureau in November 2009, there are approximately 13.7 million single parents in the United States today ( that’s not including the individuals who didn’t participate). Those parents are responsible for raising 21.8 million children (approximately 26% of children under 21 in the U.S. today). Generally, I will illustrate the picture of the single-family and their corresponding struggles with daily life.…

I thought that parenting wise touched on a lot of importing conflicts that have happen. I have gone through about three of the situations myself and if I watched this beforehand the situation could have gone differently. Ones that I have gone through is conflicts with curfews, step parents, and siblings.…
