Minnesota Micromotors: a brief strategy
According to the data and information provided, MM currently is facing a tough time in all segments comparing to the competitors. As the data shows that, the revenue and gross margin are consistently decreasing from Q1-Q3.There is a big drop at the market. In order to improve our company profit and market share .It is important for us to find out the disadvantage and advantage. There are some factors that driving out profit and market share down, which are:
1: Price is too high, all segment are over pricing.
2: R&D and performance of our products are the shortage of the competition in the market.
3. The positioning of the product is away from the market.
4. We need to improve customer satisfaction based on the price and performance
Therefore, the new strategy for the current situation is to decrease the price and reallocate the discount rate for different segments. For example, we can decrease the price to the market average price and increase the discount rate for some price sensitive segment. As segment A and segment D and distributors are the most important income. By preventing lose of more customer, we need to decrease the price to capture more market share.
For the R&D, we need to keep spending in order to retain our product in competitive market. When comparing to the market, the power to size ratio and heat resistance of our product is behind to the competitors. The investment of product development should be the second consideration of our company.
At the last, sales force is another important issue to deal with. As segment A and segment B are required to have professional sales reps and sales supports. We need to redivide the sales force to the different segment.

MM’s current situation and data analysis:
Overview: Market share A:-1.2%B: -0.2%C:0.1%D:0.1%S:-0.3% (Decrease)
Segment Share L:8%S:11%Revenue: L:$2,164,190 S:864,475(7:3)
Profit Margin from Q1-Q3:9%7%7%Average

When I saw the problem, I first thought it was not going to be possible to solve. Meaning; that I would not solve this problem without more information. When I sent the cat over first the mouse and dog did not fight by their selves. Then whenever I sent the dog or mouse over, they would fight with the cat. I even thought about leaving the cat on the existing shore and trying to move the mouse and dog, and found that the cat fought with them there on the existing shore. My thoughts then were that there had to be a trick to this. I had a conceptual block and knew there was something else to the problem that was not mentioned in the writing [ (Morris & Maisto, 2002) ].…

Marketing. We put a lot of money on sales and promotion for all segments in order to increase customers’ awareness and build a great brand image. After customer awareness or brand recognition is achieved, we will reduce the budget for sales and promotion for that segment. However, we modified the strategy by putting a low price in the first year in order to increase the customers’ awareness also. Offering a cheap price for all of the products gives the customers more choices, thus building a high customer loyalty to our products. Therefore, by distinguishing our products with better performance and size, having high awareness in the market, and easy accessibility, we will gain a competitive advantage in the market.…

Consumer demands often change very quickly, and the research and development department must be alert and adapt to these market fluctuations accordingly. I would invest a substantial amount of money to research and development so that it can continually modify and update the firm’s products to preserve a brand's position within the market. This is because even if our product would be leading in the market, however much it is a key product, usually will not remain in the number one market position…
