INTRODUCTION
This chapter will provide an overview of the problem by giving its background. The chapter also aims to describe background of the problem, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study, scope of the study and research questions. 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

Prior to the establishment of computerized payroll accounting system they were using manual systems in keeping their records. This technique of recording was connected with various problems such as incorrectness of accounting records and delay of documentation

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Most organization in Tanzania experience problems in processing payroll information, this result in to inefficient operation of the organization and lager amount of loss. For many years payroll data was processed manually but in recent year most of organization transforms the payroll data processing from manual to Computerized environment taking into account the number of items involved and the huge amount of money paid by the organization through payroll OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:

The main objectives of the studies are:
i. To evaluate the effectiveness of payroll accounting under computerized environment ii. To explore to what extent computerized accounting system can produce accurate payroll accounting information iii. assess whether there is an achievement and failure in implementing the computerized payroll accounting system as well as to able to recommend measure incase if there is a weakness. iv. To suggest the ways of improving payroll computerized accounting system. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Research finding will extend the knowledge of the researchers in the field of accounting profession and to act as a stimulant for the further study to other researchers. Also the findings will be used as a guideline to advice the management on how the effectiveness of computerized payroll accounting system.
