Although he is different from everybody else, Simon always manages to have high spirits and be hopeful. This is displayed with Simon’s mother and father. They go on not have a bit of concern with Simon at all but he never complains dealing with his parents to anyone. Another example is when the kids in his class would torment him and pass him around in class by lifting him up just because he was smaller but Simon was still kindhearted to everybody and respected others. The last occurrence when Simon is optimistic happens when is continually encouraging Joe to be joyful. Simon claims, “Your problem is that you have no faith.” Joe responds, “I got faith. I just need proof to back it up.” Joe is more of a pessimist and practical person therefore Simon is there hence he can cause Joe be further positive.…

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven” (Matthew 5:3). This beatitude was practiced by Simon throughout the movie and was shown through his thoughts, words, actions and deeds. Many who experience this beatitude feel that they have no moral riches and are in need, whereas Simon had faith which kept him going. Jesus says that, no matter your status in life, you must recognize your spiritual poverty before you can come to God in faith to receive the salvation he offers. Simon Birch is an example of a person who became closer with God because of his immense faith in him.…

The innocence and virtuousness that Simon possesses is shown by his thoughts and actions. It is apparent that Simon is naïve when it comes to violence in the world because he does not even know what rape means when he is told the girl that used to live in their house was raped and killed. When Simon finds the doll that his brother kills, he “turned her face-down with his toe before he shut off the spigot.” Simon does not like violence and he tends to shy away from it. He shows respect for the doll when he turns it over because he is a kind, thoughtful person. He also shows that he follows rules when he “wait[s] exactly twelve minutes” while his brother places the body and hides. Simon is a thoughtful kid that tries to avoid trouble and maintains respectful intentions.…
