In The Yellow Paper it is about a woman and her husband it takes place in I would say early 1900s. The woman’s name is Jane and her husband’s name is John. If a physician of high standing, and one’s own husband assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression a slight hysterical tendency what is one to do?” She also mentions her brother is a physician and that he thinks the same thing. She also mentions she likes to write and her husband will not allow her to do that. The whole poem is about her being in a room that was once a nursery and the wall have yellow wallpaper. Throughout the story she talks about the patterns and everything in the wallpaper. In line 26 it says “I don’t like our room a bit. I wanted one downstairs that opened onto the piazza and had roses all over the window, and such pretty old fashioned chintz hangings! But John would not hear of it. She says that her husband does not know how much she really suffer in line 41. As the story goes on she starts to go somewhat crazy saying she women behind the wallpaper.
