Gaea sent The titans to get her children back from the underworld, but they did not save them because they were monstrous. There was a prophecy that Cronus would be overpowered by his children. The prophecy did not come true. The myth of Cronus decided to marry his sister Rhea. She had children and Cronus swallowed all of them except Zeus with Rhea hid to keep him safe. Zeus tricked his father into throwing up his siblings with a potion made of Mustard and wine. Zeus dethroned his father, but cronus became supreme god. This poison forces Cronus to throw up all the children he had previously eaten. Out of fright and anger, Cronus escapes into his fortress and declares war on all gods thus beginning the war between the gods and titans. This war continues for about ten years with no specific days to declare the commencement as well as the end of the war. However, both sides at the time seemed be at an impasse as neither of them was winning or willing to surrender. At least until Zeus remembered being told of certain creatures that had been banished long ago, and he and two of his brothers set out to go find them. They travelled great distances and faced many obstacles until they reached the everlasting cliffs, where the monsters were being held. There they freed the prisoners and in return for their noble action, the monsters gave each of the brothers a powerful weapon. To Poseidon he gave a trident that can create earthquakes, to Hades he gives the helmet of invisibility and to Zeus he give thunderbolts. With these weapons they win this everlasting war between the gods and…

When looking throughout ancient mythology, each story has unique characteristics that make them their own. By looking deep into the myth, and analyzing its qualities, society can get a greater grasp of what the author was trying to portray through each God. One myth in particular is the journey of Odysseus as he traveled from the city of Troy, to his homeland in Ithaca. This story represents various interpretations such as gender sexuality, nature myth theory, and rationalism.…

One of the most important similarities that Odysseus and Gilgamesh have is that they both serve as connections between the Gods and the mortals. Gilgamesh is born of a god and is the ruler of the people of Uruk. Odysseus invoked the wrath of the Gods because of his cruel treatment of the Cyclops, Poseidon‘s son. No matter what the specific circumstance, Odysseus’s and Gilgamesh’s epic statuses make them critical singularities, representative of the Gods to the people, and representative of humans to the Gods. This gives them a divine impact on the realms in which they exist, making them very influential people…

We find out that while Odysseus has been gone many of the men have been trying to steal his wife away from him and lust for her. Odysseus has a son who is named Telemachus. He wishes to kill off the men who are trying to steal his mother and lust for her. "He could almost see his magnificent father, here ... in the mind’s eye—if only he might drop from the clouds and drive these suitors all in a rout throughout the halls and regain his pride of place and rule his own domains!"(197) Athena appears to sympathize for Odysseus's son and his situation so she appears to him in the form of one of Odysseus's fathers friend. "And down she swept from Olympus’ craggy peaks and lit on Ithaca, standing tall at Odysseus’ gates, the threshold of his court. Gripping her bronze spear, she looked for all the world like a stranger now, like Mentes, lord of the Taphians."(196) It is here that she tells his son that his father Odysseus is alive and well and being held captive. She tells Telemachus that he must get a crew together and sail out to the seas in search of information on his father. He must also kill those men who have been looting their estate and lusting for his mother. Eventually Telemachus suspects it was a God he has spoken to. This is important to the theme. Telemachus would have never known his…

In the Myth of Cronus, Cronus was afraid that his children would take his authority, as he had against his father which was Uranus, so in order to keep his authority, Cronus swallowed each child as soon as they were born. Ghea, his wife was filled with distress and anger, so when it came to Zeus, Rhea wanted to save at least her sixth and last child. Before Rhea gave the stone to Cronus, she went to her parents Uranus and Gaea for advice and they told her to wrap a stone in baby clothes and give it to Cronus. Cronus swallowed the stone and he could not tell that it was not a baby. In both the Cronus Myth and The Lightning Thief, there is a theme which is about fate and prophecy as well as a mother’s love for her child.…

The next theme that is incorporated into the Odyssey is the theme xenis. This theme is also well incorporated into this epic. It seems wherever Odysseus goes he is welcomed with open arms. For example when he arrives in Scheria the home of the Phaeacians the princess Nausicaa and her handmaidens bath him and take him to the palace of king Alcinous where he is invited to a banquet. This is very important in his successes after all without the help from all these people he would not be able to make it home. The relationship between…

Zeus was the child of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea, and was the youngest of all his siblings. Cronus , Zeus’ father, had been warned that one of his children would overthrow him. Cronus knew the consequences, for he had overthrown his father, Uranus. To prevent this from happening Cronus swallowed his newborn children Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades and Poseidon, but according to legend his wife Rhea and her mother Gaia, wrapped a stone in swaddling clothes in the place of the infant Zeus. Cronus thinking it was the newborn baby swallowed the stone. Meanwhile Rhea and her baby were taken to Crete, and there, in a cave on Mount Dicte, the divine goat Amaltheia suckled and raised the infant Zeus. When Zeus had grown into a young man he left the cave and returned to his fathers domain, and with the help of Gaia, tricked Cronus to vomit the five children he had previously swallowed. However, this led to war and Zeus led the revolt against his father and the dynasty of the Titans. In the end theTitans were defeated and banished to "Tartarus", which was a region lower than the underworld. Once Zeus had control, he and his brothers divided the universe amongst themselves: Zeus gaining the heavens, Poseidon the sea, and Hades the underworld. Being the supreme ruler he upheld law, justice, and morals, and this made him the spiritual leader of both gods and men. Zeus has always been associated as being a weather god, as his main attribute is the thunderbolt for which he used to rule Olympus. Hera was Zeus’ wife…

For my DIY course, I had researched mythology, mainly Greek mythology though. So in the beginning of Greek mythology, the first gods were Gaea, the Earth and Uranus, the Sky and Heavens. Some stories say that Gaea had made Uranus. Together they had twelve children in all and they were known as the first generation of Titans. Six of them were females and their names were Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Rhea, Theia, Themis and Tethys. The six males were named Coeus, Cronus, Crius, Hyperion, Iapetus, and Oceanus. The Titans arose to power when Cronus, his mother, Gaea, and his brothers made a plan to take the rulership of the Cosmos from their father, Uranus, resulting with Cronus who the youngest brother to be in control.…

In an epic poem such as the Odyssey, there are many themes. Out of all of the themes that were in the poem, the theme of loyalty can be considered the most important. As Odysseus begins to tell his story, he shows that his main priority is to go home to his family and bring home his men. In the story the Lotus Eaters, Odysseus shows the characteristic of loyalty for his men by saving them and not leaving them behind with the Lotus. In the Odyssey, Odysseus demonstrates many examples of loyalty to his men by doing whatever he can to get them home, even if it means sacrificing people.…
