Similarities Between ASCAP And BMI

ASCAP and BMI are both licensing companies for song writers and publishers and pays them every time their song is played. Artists like Bruno Mars, or Usher are licensed users under ASCAP. Some notable artists associated with BMI are David Bowie and Kid Rock. In order to be a member both organizations require a fee; ASCAP has a $50 fee for songwriters and publishers alike while BMI’s songwriter membership is free and their publisher fee is $150. In terms of royalties both companies collect royalties from songs played from radio stations, clubs, TV programs, and movies. ASCAP requires that an artist has an ASCAP publishing company in order for the artist’s publisher to collect their royalties. BMI does not require a certain publishing company
