Simón Bolívar: The Flag Of Venezuela
My country is Venezuela. Venezuela is located on the Northern tip of South America and Colombia is it’s neighbor to the West. Venezuela was founded on July 5, 1811 by Simón Bolívar. The inspiration behind the flag originally came from the one used by the liberation leader, Francisco de Miranda from his expedition in 1806. The Venezuelan flags colors are red, blue, and yellow. The yellow stripe is on the top of the flag, the blue is in the middle, and the last stripe is red. In the middle, on the blue stripe there are eight white stars that form an arc. Venezuela’s shield is in the top left corner of the flag. The shield is featured on the flag of the government and military authorities only. The three features that I will explain are the stars on the flag, the significance of the color red on the flag, and also the horse on the shield.

The first feature I am explaining is the stars on the flag. There are eight stars on the flag today. The original seven stars were added to the flag in 1836 which represent the seven original united provinces that supported Venezuela’s independence and signed the Independence Act, on July 5, 1811. The provinces were Caracas, Cumaná, Barcelona, Barinas, Margarita, Mérida and Trujillo. In 2006, the eighth star was added in honor of Simón Bolívar.

The feature that I thought was the most important was the white horse on the shield. The free running horse is a symbol of the independence and freedom of Venezuela. This symbol also represents the people of Venezuela who worked hard and waited long to become a free nation. All these features are important because they show how Venezuela has developed over time and they show what hard work Venezuela has done to make the great country it is

The Coat of Arms created for El Patróns Empire, Opium, is based off of literal and metaphorical ideas. For example the entire reason for his empire was his anger that all seven of his siblings died. He believed he deserved the lives they did not get. Also Opium would be nothing without Poppies so to support my shield I used Poppy Flowers. Notice that there are seven flowers supporting the shield, each of the flowers represents a sibling he lost. The smallest flower represents the sister he had that throughout the story El Patrón said died of typhoid and was barely tall enough to see over the windowsill “no, not even on tiptoe”. The crest and crown of my shield are meant to resemble El Patrón himself. In english El Patrón means the boss, to…

In the late 1700s to the early 1800s, the people of South and Central American colonies began to rebel against the oppressive Spanish regime. Most of the revolutions were successful, and thus began the freedom of many nations and equality for their people. But without the intelligent and powerful revolutionary leaders, the colonies wouldn’t have had the same success. One of the most well known leaders, Simon Bolivar emerged triumphant from his movement for freedom, granting independence to those who fought with him. But his successes and motivations didn’t develop overnight. They were fueled by many different aspects of Bolivar’s life, stemming from type of people that he met and heard about, to his need for glory.…

Francisco de Miranda was the person who originally created the common yellow, blue and red flag of Gran Colombia that Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, with slight variations, share today. Miranda gave at least two sources of inspiration for his flag. In a letter written to Count Simon Romanovich Woronzoff in 1792, Miranda stated that the colors were based on a theory of primary colors given to him by the German writer and philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Miranda described a late-night conversation which he had with Goethe at a party in Weimar during the winter of 1785. Fascinated with Miranda's account of his exploits in the United States Revolutionary War and his travels throughout the Americas and Europe, Goethe told him that, "Your destiny is to create in your land a place where primary colors are not distorted.” He proceeded to clarify what he meant:…

Did you know that on February 15, 2016, Canada's national flag turned 51 years old ? Canada's national flag is relatively a recent event. The idea of a new flag was inaugurated by Canadian Prime minister Lester B. Pearson. The proposal caused a lot of controversy and commotion. In 1964, a flag committee formed to settle issues. The maple leaf design by George Stanley based on the Royal Military College of Canada was chosen. National flags are not just used to fly in the air as a decoration piece. They have a much deeper and a consequential meaning to them. Just as for any country, the Canadian flag strengthened Canada's rise as a nation. Like surrealist paintings, Amaral’s works tends to convey fantastic scenes. Yet her work differs from the surrealistic by content. She also created a singular style by rendering sharp edged curved forms with smooth brushwork, as well as bright and saturated colors. In Abaporu, she emphasizes the yellow, green, blue and white of the Brazilian flag, which originally symbolizes the color of the royal family, however people later associate the colors with the richness of the natural resources (yellow), forests (green), sky and rivers (blue) and peace…

There are a plethora of things we take for granted in our everyday lives. Among these things, and perhaps the greatest of them all, is the American flag, and there is evidence. Outrageously, at Hampshire College in Massachusetts, a group of college students, dissatisfied with the results of the recent presidential election, stole the American flag being flown over the college campus, and burned it on Veterans Day ! The very existence of this issue defies the three core principles of the American flag: freedom, patriotism. Those three points are what best describe what the American flag means to me.…
