In 2012 the film Silver Lining Playbook, was released. In the beginning of the film you see Pat Solitano being released from a mental hospital to the hands of his mother. This paper will analyze the themes of sex and gender, being a product of one's environment, and language and symbols. From Pat's perspective his life was perfect until he found his wife in the shower with another man, which enraged Pat. When Pat leaves the mental institution his only goal is to get his wife back although she has a restraining order against him. Days after his release, Pat meets Tiffany a young girl who has problems of her own from sex addiction to losing her husband from a work related incident. First, we are going to look into sex and gender, and how it interchanges between both protagonist.
