Significant Places In New York City
Many places hold memories that are sparked by special occasions. School, home, church, and work are some places that hold many memories for me. But there is only one place that stands out the most. New York City is the place that has captured my heart. I have tons of memories being a child and going into the big city. Now that I'm older I get to experience the city alone. I love leaving the small town of Iola and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the big city. I also love all the different smells, food, and people. In my opinion you will not find another place like New York City.
I like to go into the city early in the morning so I have all day to explore. When I arrive my first quest is to find a bagel shop so I can eat a small breakfast. This usually takes me awhile. Early mornings on week days are very busy. People are rushing around trying to find a taxi to take them to work or to a destination that they

There a trees everywhere, park benches always filled with people reading the morning paper, and people playing with their dogs. Tons of people visit the park when they want to relax and have a good time. This is the place that brings back many childhood memories. The park was the first place my parents brought me when I was a child. My parents would pack a blanket and we would have a picnic. After eating we would go down to the pond and feed the ducks left over bread from our lunch. There were always other people feeding the ducks too. I remember it was always a feeding frenzy! Ducks would come out of the water and walk right up to you. Ducks fighting over a little piece of bread. You would think they were starving to death, but you know they weren't. Hundreds of people feed the ducks in a day. My brother and I loved doing this. I love visiting the park. It's a relaxing place that you can go to escape the busy streets. When I'm done with my lunch I start heading to my next place I like to

I don’t travel very much at all but my parents managed to send me on the trip as a kind of graduation gift, a great traveling experience and the sightseeing part of the trip was amazing. We went toured all over the city, went to see plays, and visited a lot of famous places. I had only seen New York on TV or in pictures but I loved being able to actually go there. Just watching TV or seeing pictures on a screen cannot compare at all to actually standing at the top of the Rockefeller Center and being able to see all of Manhattan and the surrounding area as far as you can see, the same can be said about Times Square. Going to these two places were some of my favorite things that we did, along with seeing the Blue Man Group, going to Chinatown, and walking up and down Fifth Avenue. I had a great time actually being able to see and experience everything for myself, but there are more reasons as to why I loved that trip so much.…

I grew up in a two small towns called Ruston, La and Grambling, La. I spent my childhood in Ruston and my teenage years in Grambling. The two towns are so small it's like 1 small town almost. I enjoyed my childhood there. It was a place where kids were free to run and play. Til this day it is still a place where kids can be free and mothers don't have to constantly fret about there child being kidnapped of the street. I remember being up the street outside playing jump rope, volley ball, kickball, football, softball, and basketball with all the neighborhood kids. When evening came and the sun went down I remember my mother standing in the yard calling my name for me to come home because it was getting late.…

The city of New York, in the early 1900s (and even now), has been depicted in various ways through the views and experiences of its own inhabitants, tourists, passerbys, and even legends in literature; authors who have lived in and/or written about the diverse city. Some literary works have made reference to the city as a great place to be and even depicted it as “the most fatally fascinating thing in America.” (Johnson 387). While other authors have depicted New York City in a completely different light, referring to it as a place being taken over by tourists/white people or saying that it’s a dangerous place to be. Some written works that have glorified New York City are “The Autobiography of an Ex-colored Man” by James Weldon Johnson and “Paul’s Case” by Willa Cather. Some literary works that have de-glorified the city are “Sonny’s Blues” by James Baldwin and “When the Negro was in Vogue” by Langston…

    New York City Adventure

My favorite trip I've ever been on was definitely my first trip to New York City. Through the many stores and massive crowds of people I learned some important life lessons, other than how much I enjoy elbow room. The "Big Apple" was more that just a city to me, it was an experience, in fact, the whole trip was an experience! Whether it was the airplane ride to Manhattan, the city itself, or the Yankee game we went too, I had an amazing time. I never will forget that early morning where drove up to the Charlotte-Douglas Airport and I began my NYC journey. I walked in to see people scattered across the airport like ants after an anthill was knocked over. My parents instantly went to get our boarding passes but with all the noise it was hard to keep up. While my parents were getting a bag checked at the front desk I began to look around and I saw all the people. Little did I know how many people I'd end up seeing in the next week alone! Then we began to roll our suitcases up to the security section of the airport. After just a few crazy minutes we were in the terminal area. It was hard to take in it all, but before I knew it I was boarding my plane to New York, New York! It all happened so fast, one second I was getting on a plane, the next I was sitting in a hotel looking down my window at "The city that never sleeps" (and with all the traffic and noise outside I'm pretty sure the people here don't sleep either!). Despite my lack of sleep, early the next morning my family and I were walking through the streets of New York City. We walked through Rockefeller Center and saw some of the studios where TV shows were filmed. We went on a ferry ride to see The Statue of Liberty, which itself was a beautiful site. We ate classic foods for the area, like New York Pizza from Grand Central Station, and a hot dog from Coney Island. All together this made for the greatest day ever, and believe me I slept through the night since all that touring made me really…

It takes a long time for me to get to the best place in the world. Usually three of four hours will but us in Savannah, Tennessee, unless I'm driving. Although the drive is long and tedious, the nature around me on the way is so beautiful. There are hills, trees, pigs, cows, and green grass as far as I can see. My family and I always have the best time on that very long drive. We fill the car with country music, and we all join in and sing along. Laughter, singing, and wonderful conversation fill my ears all the way there. I always love to be able to have good conversation with my mom and brother. Without the long drive and enormous amount of time, the visit wouldn't be the same. The best memory that I have would have to be how every time, like clockwork, we stop right in the middle of the drive and do the same things. We stop in the same spot, we buy the same things, and we always use the restroom. Although it's more of a tradition and not a memory, I can always count on stopping there for a midway drive snack. When we almost reach our destination, there is one special road that my brother and I get very…

The cool water of the lake provides something everyone can enjoy. Whether it’s for the older folks relaxing in the rooms, looking out their balcony, getting their feet wet enough to enjoy the refreshing temperature, or the young kids playing in the shallows with the small fish nipping at their feet as long as they can stand it. It doesn’t matter if you just need a little quiet time to sit back and listen to the small squirrels and chipmunks playing tag through the lofty treetops. People of today’s age go here for romantic getaways, jet skiing, snowboarding and relaxation. Nothing can match the peacefulness that you receive after relaxing in a tube on the lake or a small boat. Just to discover the protected wilderness that surrounds the lake, is great enough enjoyment to some that like the easy flow going of life and nature itself.…

    Museums in Nyc

In 2009, a piece of news about Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) drew my attention. It said that this nonprofit museum suffered decreasing investment and donation since the worldwide financial crisis in 2008; indeed, it lost about 18% money. It is no doubt that the great power of financial crisis damages the development of nonprofit museums, which rely on the endowments and donations from the individuals, institutions, government, etc. There may be some negative expectation on the future of nonprofit museums because of the poor economic condition. However, as we can see today, MoMA still exists in midtown Manhattan, holds unique and attractive events, and becomes one of the must-be places in New York City (NYC). Except for MoMA, similar situation happened to other NYC nonprofit museums after global economy slowdown. Nonprofit museums finally survived and do not lose their significant role in NYC.…

New York! Moving to New York changed my life. At 17, I was lucky enough to be offered a piano course in the United States, the Stony Brook International Piano Festival, organised by who would later become my teacher, Dr José Ramón Méndez, and his wife, Dr Amy Gustafson. Thanks to having been in that festival, I had the opportunity to perform in New York's Steinway Hall. This experience was a life-changer, as it was then when I realized that New York was the place where I could better develop my career. It was the hardest decision I had to make, but I think I chose rightly. I'm very happy there.…
