Importance Of SI Essay During my six months in the army many a time has the importance of keep accountability for all sensitive items come into a conversation or lecture. Realizing the full importance of sensitive items and knowing thier exact location and especially having them on your person has been burned into my after this last land nav. I have realized that sensitive items can for one save your life. Two can save your battle buddies life and three serve in important role in any military day.

Sensitive items can save your life. When I got talked to during land nav about the importance having all sensitive items secured and accounted it for it made me realize a few things. most of which had to do with my life and the life of my battle buddies. I realized that to not have accountability for sensitive items such as my weapon, which I did not have next to me, or my kit could potentially kill me in a war zone. What would I have done if we had been ambushed or attacked. I would have been screwed and my squad not to my mention my platoon and company would be one weapon weaker in the fight. I could have potentially lost my life or caused one of my battle buddies to lose their life. I realized that my actions no longer just affect me but affect the team as a whole. Not just in a life or death situation but in any situation really. Sensitive items can make or break a mission or tem not having just one item on your person when you need it could potentially be catastrophic and cause mission failure. To be that guy on any mission would not be a good thing what so ever. No one wants to be a blue falcon.

Sensitive items can save your battle buddies life. As I explained before not having an item such as your weapon could be deadly and may cause loss of life to you and others. But not just your weapon what about something such as a radio or optic on your weapon all the down to the most minute item such as a pen or notepad. A radio especially seeing as a radio is the key to evacuation if someone is hit or goes down due to an injury. A radio is your only life line to safety. Also not having something as small as pen or paper couldbe bad too. Say your assigned an area to meet up at and you need to write it down but due to your lack of sensitve item accountablity you have no pen or paper and only rely on memroy. You might end up at a wrong spot missing your pick up or even worse walking into an ambush.

The definition of sensitive items is anything that considered classified or a mission essential item. They range anywhere from protective wear, maps, patrol routes, nods (night vision goggles) or simply your weapon. The meaning of securing your sensitive items mainly is maintaining accountability for opsec (operation security), mission success and a soldiers overall readiness. If an item is lost and the enemy gets his/her hands on that item it could compromise the mission at hand or give them intelligence on the items we as soldiers use each day. Using habits and exercising the securing of sensitive items will make it possible for the soldier and his or her team to operate at the top performance. Operational security is process that denied valuable information to an enemy. If an enemy were to obtain the presented it could be used against our forces. Not securing sensitive items increases the risk of loss by being intercepted by unauthorized personnel. Every soldier must maintain accountability and positive control of all sensitive material to allow full use by them and anyone involved with the mission at hand while still maintaining operational security. Operational security can be compromised through the loss of sensitive items due to loss of equipment used for operational planning, or items used for support missions. Also depending on the type of sensitive item that is being classified it could fall under a different level of security as it is deemed so by the U.S. Government. The levels included in the term classified are restricted (public disclosure could have undesirable effects or do some harm), confidential (unauthorized disclosure could damage national security example would be compromising information that indicates the strength of armed forces or disclosure of technical information about weapons), secret (unauthorized disclosure could seriously damage national security) and top secret (unauthorized disclosure could…

When most people hear the word "accountability," they immediately become uncomfortable. The thought of making themselves totally open, honest, and vulnerable with another person doesn't sound appealing to most of us. Regardless of how we few however, supervisors need to know where their soldiers are at all times. Accountability is a very important part of being in the military, even more so than any other profession. Night and day soldiers must be accounted for, because in the military things can happen at any time. If it’s not known where they are or what they are doing, how can anyone know if they are well, or even alive? A sad fact of life is soldiers commit suicide all the time. Whether it is because of personal struggle or family tragedy, it happens. Also, not every soldier is trustworthy. If that is the case, that soldier should be carefully watched to make sure that he or she doesn’t do anything that could put themselves, or others, in harm’s way.…

In the Army, there are a variety items that fall under the “sensitive items” category. In today’s modern politics, they have chosen to cut the budget down to a very small size for the military. Therefore, securing valuables such as issued items which include: helmets. IBA, IOTV, and anything else issued to you by the United States Army, is extremely important. This not only saves the Department of the Army money, but securing anything you may have also protects you, and in the long run, saves you money as well. If you leave anything unsecured or out in the open, that alone leaves it at a high risk of being stolen or damaged. Say one day you leave your helmet, body armor, or any other type of TA-50 (issued items) in your car. You decide that…

    Red Convertible Symbolism

In “The Things They Carried,” Tim O'Brien mentions a group of soldiers in war. O’Brien describes in such detail the things they carry like ammunition and medical supplies. But not just only physical items but also objects from home that symbolize what they left behind and miss. Each soldier carries an object that connects to them. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried letters from a girl named Martha someone who he loved. This important object symbolizes his love he has for her. The things that soldiers carry were also determined by superstition. “Lieutenant Cross carried his good luck-pebble. Dave Jensen carried a rabbit’s foot.” The symbolism was a superstition of what they believe in, by holding those items are a sense of comfort. The soldiers carried around things that made it easier to cope with their situations "They carried the sky. The whole atmosphere...they carried gravity." But the greatest weight that soldiers carry are their emotions: "Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight." These emotional burdens are the heaviest because they are intangibles and cannot be disposed of. While the objects help them thru the war it can also be a symbolism after the war is over. They can symbolize their past life in the war, a memory they left behind. Soldiers tend to carry tangible and intangible objects, no matter how heavy they are, they all share the same loads of love, pain and…

Another basic sensitive item that all soldiers are assigned is their gear. Most soldiers probably still remember their drill sergeants telling then to never leave their gear behind. If during a firefight you shouldn't just leave an empty magazine on the ground or leave you battle buddies weapon on the ground because he was wounded. You should always take it with you if possible, the reason being is because if no matter how small or insignificant it may seem every piece of gear we're issued can be turned against us. Something like a pistol might not seem like much but if your team member is wounded and you leave something like an AT-4 behind it could be fired at a convoy and then turned into an IED.…

Securing an item means putting it in a location where it is safe from removal by the wrong person (any person not designated with where said item is located and how it is held fast in place) as well as preventative action to avoid the item falling out of place and becoming lost or otherwise accidentally unaccounted for. Methods of securing items are placing it in a container (pouch, bag, pelican case, etc.) which can be sealed and attached to a larger piece of equipment, or the trooper’s…

When a soldier fails to keep up with his or her sensitive item it effects more than just that specific soldier, it affects any and all soldiers around them. If a soldier fails to keep up with his item it can result in serious injury even in some cases death to that soldier as well as other soldiers and civilians. For example; if while deployed in country a soldier places his or her weapon down walks away out of sight from it, and leaves it aimlessly lying unattended and unsupervised the weapon is now available for anyone to pick up. Then if the weapon were to be discovered by hostiles in that area (or even just by a passing child) that hostile (or child) now has the…

The novel The Things They Carried was highly symbolic. The items that the men within the platoon had carried symbolized home and comfort. Each man had a unique item with them in the war that provided them with comfort and reassurance. These physical items carried the men through all of the hardships they endured by giving them a peace of mind and hope of returning to their former lives. From carrying a condom, a comic book, ammunition, the bible, photographs, and many other little material things, these belongings helped the men push on during the war and acted as their own little comfort zone. What O’Brien is trying to convey with the title is that not only did the men carry their 10-pound vest, or their 15-pound M-16 rifles, but they also carried emotions, struggle, and courage. They carried each other, and carried the weight of an entire country on their shoulders. The materialistic things any man may bring to war can generalize the title, but the meaning goes much deeper than what is actually presented. The men carried much, much more than just items and armor; they carried laughter, joy, anger, optimism, fear, and love. The entire novel can be used itself to symbolize the memories of the lives lost during the Vietnam War. The nightmares, the dreams, and the visions can be symbolized…

    Sensitive Items

Sensitive items are very important when it comes to any solider which is why it is imprtant to always keep track of them and know where they are at all times. You should never leave your sensitive items alone, or if you have to, have someone in your platoon or team guard them. Always get your stuff back when you are done so you can have accountability. Your sensitive items include alot of things including your weapon, night vision goggles, spare barrels, and anything you will need to correctly perform your job right. Spare barrels are very important to me because I am a SAW gunner and depending on what rate of fire I am shooting at, I would need to change out my barrels from either 10 minutes to every minute. You should always keep your spare barrel on you because you never know how much you are going to shoot. Another sensitive items is your NODS. The Army is known for attacking at night and having night vision goggles is an essential tool that we all use to have an advantage over the enemy at night. Most countries do not have the equipment or money to buy this nice of equipment like us so we have a huge advantage over them in wars and fights. Having this is very important when it comes to doing missions in the night because simply, we can see at night. While most people have a sight range of about 5 meters away at night and cant see very far, we can focus our NODS pretty far away and see just as far as we can during the day. Your weapon is another huge and quite obvious sensitive item. obviously as infantryman, our weapon is our lifeline and our key sensitive item that we need as a soldier to perform just about any mission that includes engaging the enemy. Without our weapon, we are nothing and have no way to fight but with combatives. Every soldier has their own weapon from an M4 to a SAW to a 240 or a 203 grenadier and all play different roles in the team and company. The Team Leader provides tactical leadership for the team at all times with a do as I do…
