Should U.S. School Board Allow the Use of Ipads for Students?
Abstract
Textbooks are heavy, thick, and carried everywhere daily for us students; travelling from class to class and this weight on our backs may stunt our growth. With a problem such as this, students, with a personal opinion, would be very appreciative if the school was able to exchange their textbooks into iPads, which are nearly weightless and takes less room capacity inside their backpacks which the extra room can be used to store more nutritious meals. Without this entire luggage on their backs, students will happier and are able to get to classrooms quicker without the books slowing them down and which is why the iPad would be a major benefit to the student body.
In a personal opinion, I believe the United States School Board to allow the use of iPads in classrooms with the reasons and facts given prior in this writing. Not only would it help students learn better, save money, and go green, it would also make the students appreciative of what the United States is doing in order to make sure they are getting a sufficient education (in their eyes through the latest electronics).
I did this research based on my own iPad experience. I watched some videos on YouTube when it first came out. I used a few information on the news as well as books. Also, I did some research on the Internet and use articles to back up my evidence. Based off my research, I found many websites, along with books that talk about the iPad effects. It is very interesting to know how paper was made and how much did we use per year. I also found the pros and cons of the iPad and textbooks as well. You will notice that as you follow along my research paper. It has great arguments and proof of evidence to back up my research.
In the future, I would love to publish this research. I believe this research could change the school board’s perspective. As you know, there is no electronics allow in school, not even cell phone. There is really no chance to allow students to use iPad instead of

Everything now is about being up to date and tablets take us one step closer to that. Also instead of paying for new books because they are out of date or the binding is falling apart because of over use, tablets are always updating and have the newest technology and news ready for use. "We feel like we're definitely giving our kids an advantage," said Principal Matt Zopf, who previously was the district's assistant technology director. "It's a new concept and a new way of doing things." (Thorsen). According to Student Public Interest Research Groups Everyone knows that textbooks prices are outrageous. Students spend an average of $1,200 a year on textbooks and course materials, and prices have been rising more than four times the rate of inflation for the past two decades. This just shows that the price of books will continue to go up and up. Therefore I believe that we should have tablets to decrease the amount of spending we do in a year. This is the 21st century it’s time for…

Did you know that more than half of the world’s students are using tablet computers? To all the students out there who are not lucky enough to even use a computer (at home or at school), I am deeply sorry for you since half of the people that are at the same age as you are surrounded by information, and are improving their knowledge of the world everyday. No worries! After this speech you will have all the rights to go against who ever would not let your school have laptops/computers. "How is it possible to convince my headmaster to let us have computers in school?” A Chinese proverb once said: “Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in a different time.” It clearly states how the minds of the elders and the juniors are so different since they were born in different times or even centuries. Would you rather listen to a person who has a mind to create more possibilities and not stick to the old rules or a person who sticks any same old rules that their elders once told them and rule the school? I bet you most people would choose a person who creates more possibilities than an old man who sticks to the rules and not let the school have technology. I mean, what is the point of a school, which only has books and pencils, and never interact with visual presentations; it would make the students lives in to hell! When they grow up, what job would require them to only write in books and pencils? If your child does not know anything about technology, what can they even be when they grow up? Nothing is my answer to that. You might say an architect, but sadly, they do use computers too, since after they finish the planning and design of the building, they would have to scan it on a computer and send it out to the managers. Our lives depend on technology and computers. Kids in school used to write on paper and read out of books But the fact is, more and more kids in school…

    Tablets vs. Textbooks

Technology is undeniably becoming more popular in schools and is facilitating students in their pursuit to learn in many ways. Primarily tablets are more efficient, reducing the time needed to reach the material and thereby allowing the students to gather and learn information at a faster pace. Tablets can also store large amounts of information, including quizzes, tests, textbooks and other files thus removing the need for physical storage of these materials. This conserves money while preserving the environment; and according to “nomoreschoolbooks.webs.com”, “over six million trees a year are cut down for school paper” costing “thirty to fifty thousand dollars a year per school” as stated in “www.edutopia.org”. Initially the print textbook may seem to be the more cost-effective choice as the average tablet costs around three hundred and eighty six dollars according to “www.tomshardware.com”. But because electronic textbooks cost fifty to sixty percent less than print textbooks, as the students add more documents and data onto their tablet they will actually be saving money. Support for tablets is increasing, particularly in high levels of government including the secretary of education, Arne Duncan and the federal communications chair, Julius Genachowski who are arguing that school publishers should “switch to digital textbooks within five years to foster interactive education, save money on books and ensure classrooms in the U.S. up-to-date content”. Students…

Every education major in college are usually anxiously awaiting their time to enter their official classes as education majors. These classes allow these future teachers the knowledge and wisdom they will need to be equipped with for their futures as educators. With that being said, here at Kansas State University the college of education goes above and beyond to make sure their future teachers are equally prepared for the "real world of teaching". They give all their education students the unique privilege and opportunity to have access to an iPad during their education classes. After receiving my iPad I quickly fell in love with it!
