Should We Get Rid Of Pennies
Pennies are easily spent and worth one cent, so if I was you I wouldn’t let that precious penny walk out of my life. Pennies are very expensive to produce. We have spent over eighty million dollars over the production of pennies, while pennies are only worth one cent. Even though some people want to get rid of the penny, it would be better if we keep it because it is apart of or culture. Also, we could avoid price increases from rounding up, and pennies are good for charities. Many people have opinions on keeping or eliminating the penny. For example according to article number one “Penny Wise, or 2.4 Cents Foolish”, Jim Flaherty states “pennies take up too much space on our dresser’s at home,” and Mr. Velde states, “The serious, simple …show more content…
An example of how pennies have influenced us is according to article number four “The Ever-Changing Penny”, it states “the one-cent piece has influenced our language, giving us a number of idioms, such as “a penny for your thoughts,” or “not one red cent.” pennies have influenced us in a way that gives our lives a little more figurative language. An example of how pennies are put to good use is according to article number three “Give a Penny-Save the Day!”, it states “pennies might be a little bulky, but they add up;moreover, because they are worth so little, people don’t mind donating them to charity.” Pennies are put to good use by donating them to charity. An example I could type to prove how everything would be cheaper if we keep the penny would be according to article number two “Is the Penny Worth It?”, it states “Price rounding cannot be done fairly.” It also states “some people fear that rounding will end up costing people extra money.” Pennies make sure prices don’t go up or down a couple of cents it makes the price fair. Pennies save consumers from paying an extra amount of money, because of the rounding system. This is why we should keep so that we don’t have to risk prices going up, our figurative language gets more advanced, and charities earn more money by the

Have you ever had a mountain of pennies and have nothing to do with them. Have you ever even really used the penny. You don't go to the store and buy something for a penny. It just sits on top of your dresser. What if there was a way to stop having a pile of pennies on your dresser. We just have to get rid of the penny. The penny should not be made because of its high production cost and the high cost to taxpayers.…

Caught up in our busy lives, Americans tend to take things for granted and fail to appreciate the little things in life. These little things have big meanings, and are much more important than we care to admit. For instance, we often pay little attention to small amounts of currency in the form of coins or more specifically, pennies.. We bustle around cities and schools and workplaces, fishing for cash to purchase a much-needed coffee or snack. Upon arriving to the cash register, we scramble into our wallets for a few pennies to reach the exact price value of our item. This has become a mindless habit, but some people have grown tired of the time wasted by penny-pinchers. However, these grumpy customers fail to recognize the depth…

My claim is yes, we should stop the production of the penny. Too much time is spent in vain searching for lost pennies. According to MIT graduate Jeff Gore, mentioned in the article Penny Pinchers by Rick Khan, four hours are spent per year looking for pennies. “If each person's time is worth $15 per hour, then each person loses $60 per year at a cost of the nation of over $15 billion per year” Come on people! 15 billion a year! What a waste of money that could have been…

Emily Andrews argues in her essay “Why I Don’t Spare “Spare Change”” that it does more harm than good to give money to beggars on the street rather than giving to an organization such as United Way to help the needy, pointing out that “one cannot be certain that one is giving to a needy individual” and that by giving to a charitable organization “ones money is likely to be used wisely.”…

We as humans don’t think of it immediately as it happens in front of our eyes but it’s still a thought that deeply lingers within our unconscious brain as we see that one dollar that we worked so hard for escape the tight grasp of our hands and end up being crammed into another dusty cash register. Now a days it seems as if our cringe and shiver with fear every time we walk into a store and then it practically seems to be sobbing for mercy when we get into the dreadful long and boring checkout lanes. As if to add more insult to injury we wallets than begin to hear the cheerful voice of the evil cashier who’s bagging our items ask “hello sir/mam, would you like to donate a dollar to...” it’s at that given moment where most of us begin to doubt and wonder if that one dollar which we worked so hard for really will make a difference in someone’s life.…

Most machines that receive change won’t accept one cent coins anymore and the pennies will just collect in people’s wallets or pockets. Canada got rid of their pennies and it seems America may do the same at some point. It costs almost double one cent to make a penny, and this is not cost efficient. There is a lot of controversy over the matter. People have been discussing whether removing the penny would hurt or help the economy for some time now. In the Time Josh Sanburn claimed, “Pennies would likely be melted down and sold for their zinc and copper, which could yield millions of dollars for federal coffers” (Sanburn 1). Pennies may end up being a rare collectable in the far future, but as of now they remain a neglected form of currency with the increased use of digital transactions. Pennies will remain a staple in history no matter what their future…
