Alex

Period 2

2/2/12

Students should have more time to eat lunch in school Have you ever been that kid who has been late to your next period class because you haven't yet finished your lunch cause of that long lunch line? Yea, I know. We've all been there. I believe that our school lunch period should be extended to a full period. My reasons behind this are students are missing valuable class time because they aren't done eating their lunch, students need more time to relax their brain both physically an mentally, and lastly because eating quickly and rushed can lead to obesity.

The school day itself isn't that long and teachers do not have all the time in the world to get through what they need to on a day to day basis, why shorten it even more? We, the students, simply aren't able to

"U.S. research shows that when people eat quickly, they consume more calories, enjoy their meal less and feel hungrier an hour later (USATODAY.com)." This can obviously lead to obesity and unhealthy kids, which is clearly a big issue in our society today. In order to avoid this major problem something must been done, and extending the lunch period would be a big step in the right direction! "It's a problem in a lot of districts . There's not a lot of time to get their food, sit down, and eat their fill(Phillips, Hellen)." Have you ever just had to slow down while eating because your stomach simply cant take any more food in at once? Well this is a constant feeling myself and many other students struggle to go through the majority of the time we step into that lunch room. This is because we feel rushed so we eat quicker, little do we know this is extremely unhealthy fir us and can negatively effect our health in the future. Do something about this horrible situation. Act out and make a

It’s not only beneficial for students, its great for teachers as well. Teachers are always scrambling for the first two-three minutes of class just trying to get thing together. Putting on more time would get rid of that problem by allowing teachers to get things ready an set up for the class. Are teachers are not robots, not yet at least. They need to use the restroom too. So instead of leaving during the middle of class to go, they would now have plenty of time to do their business before class even starts. However the bad thing about adding more time is that they get a little less class time. So doing this would be working up to when the bell rings.…

School lunches are a big part of our schools. They feed us every day and make sure we are full. They feed us food, but they don't feed us very healthy food. Parents have tried very hard to get that to change for their children. I think they should improve our lunches to make sure that kids are getting the food and nutrition they need.…

“So from eating out, we can also learn how to make wise choices.” This would make students prepared for college by enabling them to leave campus and eat what they want. This independence would get kids ready to face the real world. “It provides a semi-sheltered climate to allow students to grow and become responsible.” This would give teens the privilege of not being watched every second of the day. If students disobeyed the rules of when they should be back, they could take away the privilege or give punishment. Throughout high school students don’t have very many opportunities to show how independent they are any letting them leave for lunch would be a perfect way for teens to show teachers they can be trusted and can survive in the real world.I know a lot of high school students who are very shy and keep to themselves. With the ability to leave school during lunch, kids would become more outgoing because there would be many more chances for them to socialize and interact with the real world. “If students have the privilege of off-campus lunch, they will gain more responsibility and more experience on how the real world works.” All kids have a big part in the future of our job…

Imagine this, you walk into the cafeteria to find the smell of spaghetti, gross! You get a tray anyway. That's all that they have so it`s your only option. You only push the mushy noodles around the tray then throw it away once your lunch period is over. The next period you hear your stomach growl and wish you could have had another option at lunch. If schools provided more lunch options this problem would happen less or even disappear completely.…

According to Change.org, 9 out of 10 students say they would eat something else besides lunch food if they had a choice. A variety of food choices outside of school will benefit a student's health. Likewise, teens need the option to go out and take a break from their 8 hour school day. According to a student on Change.org, “refreshing our minds before the next few classes would really help us focus more, being in a happier environment.” Students need a break from slaving in a desk all day, doing school work. Leaving school for lunch gives students some fresh air and time to relax their brain. Leaving school to go get lunch would help students with their physical and mental…

High school students in particular lack time to socialize, eat lunch, and go about with their busy days. According to NPR, public schools give an average of 15 minutes for students to eat their lunch. Most of this time is used to wait in line for food, once students get their lunch they feel pressured to finish it quickly before the next lunch period enters in to find seats for themselves. With this lack of time, students end up wasting a lot of food, throwing away milk cartons that haven’t been opened, or hot lunches that the individual has barely consumed. Proven by research, students with more time to eat are able to take in more nourishment than students who have less time to eat. With the time, they are able to consume more of their food, reducing food waste and allowing their bodies more time to absorb nutrition from the food. Families across the nation with low income who have struggles providing complete nutritional meals for their children, depending on the school system to provide that for their children. The lunch launching method will allow students to double their eating time by cutting the waiting time in line for lunch. Along with more eating time, this means that students have cut their lunchtime in half which allows for more time that can be invested in opportunities that high school students don’t normally get to do. Some of these opportunities include a recess,…

Although many students don't eat lunch at school, which we found out in a survey we conducted, I believe that the government should increase school budgets in order for them to provide healthier lunches. I believe that if schools provide healthy lunches more people would eat at school. And if more people eat at school that would mean more profit for schools that they could spend on other things like new books or…

School food is actually much worse than fast food. According to an infographic from Good magazine school lunch programs are given eleven billion dollars on average, and yet less than a third of these programs meet the recommended amount of saturated fat per meal. My own experience with school lunch, as well as many others, has been a very bad one. School lunch just does not in any way taste good. Almost every food that schools give us taste artificial and cannot be compared to real food. This so-called healthy food is supposed to refuel our brains and boost our productivity in learning. Most people do not feel this way at all after eating school food and if anything they feel more diminished. I believe that school cafeterias should be reformed…

They could make the school day longer, but I think that this break would leave the whole school refreshed for the rest of the day. According to the American Heart Association, students who were given an hour lunch and recess break improved in school versus their grades when they had a 30-minute lunch and recess break. For instance: One day I had was the table washer. I washed tables for 10 minutes, and when I finally got out to recess, I had about 5 minutes of play time. I was super depressed the rest of the day.…
