Sports Are a Bad Cause on Young Athletes

Do you think that our school district should continue to fund sports? Many teenagers play sports and based on research; many kids get hurt, go under a massive amount of pressure, and even sometimes slack on grades. These problems support that sports a horrible cause for young athletes. It’s currently a large concern in middle schools as well as high schools. In fact, many people are debating on what is the correct thing to do in this situation; however, there are many resources that can show our school that we shouldn’t fund sports. Playing sports is dangerous. In the video “Pressure on Teen Athletes Soars,” they discuss that concussions from sports have tripled over the last decade (WCPO). It also said that many long-term brain damages are happening as a result of playing sports. “Teen athletes from the age of 14 and 19 have increased emergency room visits for concussions because of sports activity.”(WCPO). Many other injuries also happen. “For instance, injuries to the lower leg, ankle, and foot were common at both the high school and college levels (ABC News). Playing sports is very competitive therefore you undergo many sources of pressure. Playing sports is an easy way to get a scholarship from the perspective of parents. They pressure their children to play hard and win just for the sake of the scholarship. “As many high schools juniors and seniors know playing sports could be extra hard when your parents want you to get a scholarship.”(KRACTV) Many students struggle trying to fulfill their parent’s desires. There are very low chances of getting scholarships for sports, which makes children have more pressure on their shoulders. Playing sports is a bad cause but can be sometimes good to become popular. “Parents molding kids into student athletes can be good and bad.” (KRACTV) However, most people know that education is a bigger concern than popularity.
