Should Police Officers Wear Body Cameras

“ Police Body Cameras ( dash cams ) have been in use by soe law enforcement agencies since the mid-1990s”. Many people debate whether or whether not police officers should be wearing body cameras. Police officers should be wearing body cameras . Police officers should wear body cameras because for one they are able to see exactly what happened,the videos provides lessons, and the video can help protect the victim. To begin with, they are able to see exactly what happened . In the text it states “ In general watching body camera footage reveals unambiguous misconduct, officers would be foolish to file dishonest reports.” Meaning they would be able to look at the video and tell exactly what happened . They would not need to wonder if the police officer and the victim is lying or not.They would simply need to watch the video and get all of the evidence they need.
Also, it provides lessons. The authors Dan Simon and Jim Bueermann both state “It should also provide officers with a platform for reflection , self criticism and self-improvement.”Police officers will be able to correct their mistakes.
But on the other hand it can help enough citizens safety . The author states “ Other recently racially charged incidents, including the police shooting death of walter Scott in North Charleston, S.C., and the death of Freddie Gray, who suffered severe spinal cord injuries while in Baltimore police custody, have kept the issue in national spotlight.” Meaning that accident was recorded and people are able to see what the police officer did. It is ensuring the victims safety because they are able to see what happened and what wrong actions the police officer
