Should Kids Get Trophies Research Paper
Should we really give kids trophies when they really don't deserve them? So here’s a question, what is very expensive, teaches kids to be greedy, and takes up room, don't know? It’s trophies!. Heres another example, should kids get trophies for showing up and not even putting a valid effort and not exceeding to a good athletic ability. Kids are becoming greedy fast due to the lack of effort, and still get rewarded. Because in life people don't get rewarded for showing up, and kids should not get trophies for participation because trophies lose their value when everyone gets one.

Additionally, just a thumbs up or a pat on the back will keep them going. Because if you just show up and get rewarded, later in life you will be expecting a reward whenever you show up. So do kids really deserve a trophy for showing up. Plus a trophy is a way to show how you stood out from the rest, not so that everyone felt appreciated. Its also wrong because the more they get rewarded, then when they don't get rewarded they get upset.

Kids are getting greedy do to the invalid reason of giving trophies for no good reason. Also trophies are not always the right way to reward. Giving all these trophies makes a huge dent in the bank and takes up lots of room. Some kids don't even deserve trophies but people don't want anyone left out, which is completely ruining the purpose. Often

No it is not if you got a good trophy the price of one could be up to thirty five dollars now imagine thirty times thirtyfive that would be in the hundreds. Plus as shown in a research kids that are greedy when they are little can cause them to be a thief in the future. Also its not like parens get paid to show up and watch there kids, and the parents might evan be doing more work than the kids getting them there if there kids know that no matter what there going to get a trophy. Now think are kids really playing for the fun of sports

The numbers say it all. Trophy and award sales are now an estimated $3 billion-a-year industry in the United States. This number is calculated with most schools not giving out participation trophies. If every child received a trophy, this country could very well go broke; even more than it already has. The numbers of kids in activities versus students who are not involved in at least one activity is extremely high.…

Should everyone get a participation trophy? According to the "trophy's for all" policy, youth athletes are being awarded trophys for participating in a sport. Trophy's shouldn’t be given to everyone. Participation trophy's lose their meanings at times. People don’t get promotions for just showing up. On the other hand parents and coaches think that participation trophy's are motivating to youth athletes. Handing out trophies is a waste of time if youth athletes are not going to put in the effort to at least earn the trophy.…

Imagine, if you were the star player and worked every game, got the same amount of appreciation or the same reward as the player who has sat the bench basically the whole season. Doesn't sound too fair, right ? According to the "Trophies for All" policy, youth athletes are being awarded with participation trophies. Handing out trophies for just showing up doesn't teach the kids about the real world. As well, trophies can lose their meaning if everyone gets one. Finally, participation trophies use thousands of dollars that can be useful for other important needs. On the other hand, some people believe that rewarding youth athletes (that don't participate) with a trophy is acceptable. Even more, every child should get an equal amount of appreciation.Youth athletes get rewarded with participation trophies for simple matters and this is unacceptable.…

Should every one get a trophy? I do not think everyone should get a trophy for showing up, but should get one for hard work. There are positive and negative things why people should get a trophy and should not get a trophy. For example, people should earn a trophy and not just get one . There is something why youth sport should get a trophy for hard work and why that should not get a trophy for showing up. Participation trophies is to be helpful. They should not get one for being in youth sport. Cause they're going to think there are going to get one every time for just for being there that need to learn that they got to earn it and it is not just given to them. Does not show them what is out here in the real world.…

\For decades, participation trophies have been handed out like candy, regardless of how well a child has done in his competition. Lately, this has been a hotspot for debate. I believe that this practice shields children from the reality that they are not the best at everything, and do not always win. However, supporters of participation trophies argue that these trophies help build self esteem, and that they can be reminders of fond childhood memories.…

Though in my experience when i was given a trophy for participating in softball that made me think that i was good and i practiced and practiced so i was good and i felt good. Yet as the years proges the kids are rewarded for everything from behavior to actions. For example at a summer camp in Maryland gives awards every day-this “day” is just one hour long. The American Youth Soccer Organization gives out roughly 3500 trophies and awards every season. That right there tells you that kids are given and rewarded for things such as participating and to think that, that's only in two cases. There are other cases where children are not awarded a trophy but there parents may keep saying that they are so proud of you and your great at a sport when really you probably just sat there playing in the dirt.Sound familiar?.This will probably make you feel really good about yourself but have you ever stopped and thought do i really deserve this…

Merryman and Berdan argued that these participation trophies were bad, and send dangerous messages. Abate on the other hand argued that participation trophies were a good fueler for kids self esteem and desire to do better. Personally I agree with Merryman and Berdan, participation trophies are awarding children for simply putting in minimal effort. Merryman argues that children need to know its O.K. to lose. Not everyone can be a winner in life. However, Abate does a tremendous job of persuasion. Abate uses personal experience, and he strikes the readers with a feeling of pity because of statements like, “Watching a peer receive a trophy and not receiving one yourself can be degrading.” Readers know the experience can be true because of either experiencing similar or watching someone else experience the degrading feeling of not winning. Though Abate’s article may be full of pathos, he doesn’t give the reader’s much logos to look at, granted he does have some personal experience but he hardly introduces any research supporting his view. Out of the three articles, Merryman has the most convincing article because of her incredible amount of research, that includes links that the reader can follow; her ethos and pathos. Berdan, like Abate, uses a personal anecdote to support her claim, however…

The ones who don’t work for what they earn, turn out to be the people who ask for things rather than just earn it themselves. By not giving these participation trophies to children, you teach them that they need to earn it. If they just show up, but don’t do anything of importance, they shouldn’t get a trophy. This will show discipline and success. Betty Berdan once said, “Trophies should be given out for first, second and third; participation should be recognized, but celebrated with words and a pat on the back rather than a trophy.” This is a very good way to put it. Winners should be rewarded while the rest should learn an important lesson and shoot for the stars next time. They think that this trophy is really important, until they grow up and realize that it means nothing.…

Trophies are so satisfying when you receive one, but is it too far for a kid to get a trophy just for showing up? Yes it is, and there are numerous reasons to support this opinion. In particular, getting the same trophy other players are rewarded as well shows nothing worth awarding. Furthermore, trophies are not suppose to be an easy thing to achieve, or that demolishes the purpose of a trophy. I feel coaches give players too many trophies.…

Participation trophies are not doing anything but helping you kid be more successful and more positive going into things. My reasons are it’s just a sport it's not the MLB or the NBA it's just coach pitch, also it will only help with good sportsmanship make it so everyone is equal, lastly at that age you should only be playing for fun if you look at it like that it will just make it more enjoyable. First off it’s just a sport,…

As shown above there is significant support for why the practice of rewarding all participants should be eliminated. Children in their minds realize when they truly deserve a reward for what they have done. Presenting undeserving children awards will not help them with their future and it negatively impacts those who deserve them by demotivating them to excel above others. Society needs to change this before children believe it is acceptable to always be like everyone…

Firstly, not all children deserve to get a participation trophy. By giving trophies to everyone, regardless of their skill, their desire to compete and achieve will diminish. A trophy signifies that contributors worked hard and put in the time to achieve a goal. To give trophies to every child would weaken this significance. Children should not assume they will receive participation trophies every time they play a sport or every time they are in a school event, for “participation trophies ruin lives. They create a false sense of accomplishments that tells kids to be proud of mediocrity at the very time they should be…
