Division 1 Football Player Should Not be Paid to Play
"Should players be paid to play " (Dalton)? Its one of the biggest questions in the sports world right now and some people think that they should be paid to play but some would disagree with that. Football players think that they should be paid because they basically work for the university which takes time from them getting a real job (Connor). Division 1 football players shouldn’t be paid because they already get scholarship money, It wouldn’t be fair to other students and athletes, and College Football is not a job it's an extracurricular activity.
Division 1 football players are everywhere, on magazines, T.V, poster's, billboards. They get more recognition than other D-I sports and get more recognition than D-II, and D-III athletes. If people were asked who they knew, Peyton Manning or Danny Woodhead (Former D-II Star and current San Diego Charger Running back), most people would say Peyton Manning. In recent years the topic of college football players being paid has been widely discussed, but in reality the fact that this is even a discussion is just ridiculous. College football isn't a job, it is an extracurricular activity students can take part in while in college. Behind this common idea is college football players already are being seen as more privileged and that is not fair to other students and paying college football players will increase that perception. Also if the college football players were paid there must be an organized plan in terms of the pay structure it would it be fairly determined in terms of how to pay the football players and seeing if certain players get paid more than others. Most importantly is the immaturity…

Most college athletes these days are getting paid under the table according to Kenneth J. Cooper. This article explains why college athletes go to certain colleges. Donald Remy, the NCAA’s general counsel and vice president for legal affairs, says court precedents and tax laws have upheld the status of college athletes as students. “Remy believes that student athletes are not employees under the law, and that they should not be treated as employees either by the law or by the schools they attend”. In the article, “Should Kids Play Football” by Jennifer Shotz it states. “When playing football young athletes learn discipline, focus, teamwork-skills, and life skills, that will help them after football.” Football players in the NFL go through one long and grueling season after another, and that could put a lot of stress on them and make them more prone to injury. But sometimes it all pays off in the end when you get that full ride (scholarship) to the college of your dreams, and then get that five million dollar rookie contract “Football gives out the most scholarships each recruiting season..” But dreams are dreams and the chances of getting a scholarship are very slim even with all the scholarships being handed…

According to the article Jalen Rose describes reasons why the college players should be paid to play. This isn’t the first time that this has come up before, but it seems to have more steam every time it comes up in a conversation. There’s always going to have someone like Cam Newton that receives money improperly. Each college athlete should be paid a stipend of $2000.00 per semester. All the college athletes’ coaches and the schools they go to, but they are the ones that get the money and the athletes don’t get any of the money. They treat these college athletes like servants. They can’t have even a part-time…

We should continue the football program due to the positive effects it has on those involved. Football is worth keeping because of the confidence players have with the safety equipment.Players feel safe due to padding added all around the helmet to prevent concussions and have fewer head injuries. Then a plastic shell was then added to protect players upper body from harder collisions. Lastly, the program inserted thigh pads, knee pads, and hip pads to cushion and protect legs from injuries. We should keep Football due to the amount of money it brings our school.Football makes enough money to pay for all of the other school sports. It also can make up to about $63,000 a season. Just our programs and donations raised itself $15,000. Lastly, our…

To get a sense of the amount of money involved intercollegiate sports such as football. Let’s be clear, football cannot be taught, its either you have it in you or you don’t have it in you, ‘’It’s a God given talent’’. I honestly don’t believe it is fair for football players to not receive a single penny after bringing in thousands and sometimes millions of dollars in the playoff games, and in the championship game. For example, on December 31 2016, Per Adam Jude both teams were allotted 13,000 tickets which equal’s 26,000 tickets, which left 45,228 tickets to be paid for full price. According to www.vividseats.com the cheapest tickets were 180.00 each. There are 20,000 nosebleed seats in this stadium they played in. so if you do the math and calculate 180x20,000, the amount will equal out to 360,000 dollars, which would be the amount of money these football athletes attracted in just off nosebleed seats. The NCAA is a multi-billion-dollar industry that generated over $845 billion last year due to their players’ ability to entertain and perform to their fullest extent always. So, with all this money flowing in why wouldn’t they provide their athletes a stipend? Truth be told, if it wasn’t for these athletes there wouldn’t be no fans, which mean there wouldn’t be no money. So, can you tell how is it fair that these football players can’t receive a single dime after putting in the time,…

College athletes have a very busy schedule when they finished classes and practice, they have very little free time. During those free time, they sleep or do schoolwork. Student athletes are required to take a minimum of twelve credit hours each semester and they have to pass at least nine credit hours. With these rules, the athletes are spending many of hours of studying or going to class. After studying and going to their classes, they have to go to practice. Going to practice takes up about four to seven hours a day. After a long day, the athletes only have a few couple of hours for them to have some down time like watching Netflix or sleeping. These athletes are also college students who are not getting paid for their commitments. They have to find time to put work in. When athletes are looking for a job, they are very limited to only have a couple of hours a day to work. A large number of jobs want their employees to be available to work on the weekends, this tough for an athlete to look for a job because they are never available on weekends because they are traveling with the team to…

Another counter argument is that paying these student-athletes would take away the title “college athlete” and makes them into a “professional athlete”. Although this does pose a great argument, the fact of the matter is that these student-athletes are not getting what they deserve as they devote the same amount of time a full-time worker applies to their job. In order to call them a “professional” is if they were making a full salary, these students do not need a full salary, they just need a little extra to help them get buy and to insure safety if they lose their scholarship. Ryan Riddle, former professional American Arena football defensive end who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders, discusses the difference between college and professional…

Imagine this: you are in the military force, you risk your life on a day-to-day basis for our country's freedom. If you survive fighting, you sleep on an uncomfortable, rock hard bed and eat nauseating food. You work your tail off, yet you actually make less than the average American does yearly. Now, take into perspective, perhaps a professional boxer: they may risk their lives, but it's for our entertainment, not for our safety. When they are done wrestling, they go back to their five star hotels and eat gourmet food. They train, and yes, they may have worked hard to get to where they are, but they're out here making millions per fight, which is way more than what the average American makes. Look closer, should an entertainer really get paid such a profound amount for one fight, rather than those who work to…
