Should College Athletes be Paid?
“But, is money such a big problem for these student-athletes? Don't they receive scholarships? How much more money do they need?” (Meshefejian). College athletes getting paid is a big issue because it leads to many question on if they do get paid or don’t. If college athletes got paid they would have to deal with how much they should get paid and who gets paid the most. But many that say they should get paid is because they raise a lot of money for their schools and Tv programs. They also say they should because they don’t have enough money to afford food and things they need. I agree they do need extra money but everybody thats in college are not athletes.

They get a scholarship to play their sport but they have to chose what job field they want to do incase going pro don’t workout. By them playing football their education is basically free with a scholarship and that is how they will receive a real job and get paid. “These schools should facilitate the educations of student-athletes through scholarship grants, but not through a system of salaries dependent on supply and demand, which ultimately detracts a student-athlete from picking a school, and detracts them from attending a school, for the right reasons”(Meshefejian). Students getting paid would distract them by which school pay their athletes the most. Them getting paid would also be a hard decision on who gets paid the most.
Students go to college to learn not get paid to play a sport.
But college athletes are a big part of school spirit and everyone loves college sports. They play because they love the sport and it’s not a job. If they wanted to get paid they would try their hardest to make it to the NFL or NBA. College Athletes attend college to get better

Sean Gregory, a writer for Time magazine says “A season’s worth of Texas A&M home football games generates $86 million in business for Brazos County, but the players with the talent remain out of money just because college presidents set their wages at zero”. College athletes are mass-audience performers and need to be rewarded as such. College football would not make any money without the players and when a team has a star on their roster, they draw in more people than usual. This means more money for the university and coaches, but not the players. Full ride scholarships do not cover the full cost of attending school. Athletes are often short a few thousand bucks for ancillary expenses on top of tuition, room and board, books and fees: money for gas, shampoo, and maybe a few beers. “Players are essentially working full time football jobs while going to school; they deserve to be paid more than a scholarship” (Gregory). Some athletes are walk-ons and still have to pay full tuition. These athletes are deserving for a paycheck because the players determine how much a coach gets paid and how much money that school will make over there sporting season.…

“Student athlete. Student comes first”. The question everyone asks is should college athletes be paid? There are many differences in a college athlete and a professional athlete. The thing about paying college athletes is they would just spend all their money on things that they do not need. College athletes should not be paid because they are still student athletes, being paid would take the intensity out of the game, they would not be focused on their grades, and the money could corrupt the game, despite the fact that many expect to be paid because they are going to go pro.…

Since they devote a large amount into the sport year round, they are unable to get a job and therefore only live off the money that they could obtain from scholarships or from their parents. For example, college football games such as the USC vs UCLA match attract a large audience which means the schools are getting a lot of money from the entrance sells. Just like professional athletes, student athletes must practice and therefore deserve the same right to get paid, but if they do get paid, it takes away the purpose of becoming a professional athlete because they would not strive to become professional since they get paid from playing in college. However, many people believe that the athletes should get paid because they think it is unfair that they make spend a lot of time, but people also argue that they should not be getting paid because they are not professional…

Paying college athletes has been a controversy for over a century, dating back to what is considered to be the first intercollegiate competition. Fact is college athletes want to get paid beyond a scholarship. Yes, scholarships pay for the student’s tuition, books, classes, living expenses, etc., but they have no money to buy clothes, pay for parking, food, etc. Expecting the players to get paid millions of dollars is obviously unrealistic, but paying them as if it was a full time job, at least minimum wage is adequate enough. For the 15 highest paid coaches in Division 1, together they bring in around $100,000,000 every year.…

Maybe college athletes should get paid because they half to work really hard to get on the college teams and leagues. The players play sports a lot as kids too get into college basketball, football, lacrosse, and college soccer. College players spend a lot of time practising and planning for all of their games and they even show more hustle than the players from the NBA. This already proves that they could and should get paid. As much as we all love watching sports we also love how the different skills are like College to the NBA.But that’s not all we like, some of us even like the college players more than the NBA players but it’s not like we’re talking about the very skilled ones like Stephen Curry, Lebron James, and Chris Andersen.…

There are extensive amounts of controversy in our society today, such as whether or not college athletes should be paid or not. Even though college athletes receive many luxuries they still have to make there own living and support themselves. As reported by “Pay or Scholarship” written by Teengagement, it states, “Athletes are employees because they work under the control of the college.” As many people know a business has employees, if an athlete can be considered an employee to the college shouldn't they be paid like and employee? Everyone in the world has expenses they need to pay -granted a college athlete has housing and meals and all that stuff- however many of them still need money to buy things such as: toiletries, new clothes, gas, and spending money.…

It has been a debate for quite some time as to whether college athletes should be paid for their work on the field. They are some of the hardest working individuals that obtain intense practices and demanding college courses, and many believe that they should be rewarded for their hard work. But the ongoing debate is whether it is right to pay these players as if they were employees. Many major colleges provide the best services for their athletes by providing them with the greatest gyms to workout in, free health insurance for injuries, transportation, food, equipment, and most of the time, a full four-year scholarship. On top of all of these things that are provided, does it seem right to be paying these students as well? Determination and motivation for greatness during college should be enough; therefore, I don’t think that college athletes should be paid.…

Imagine spending hours and hours a week working as hard as you can at a very hard task and getting almost nothing in return. This is what college athletes go through when they voluntarily play for their school. More of their time is spent on their sport per week than on education. Some of the college sports require very hard mental and physical work that could possibly result in a future career. Also collegiate sport organizations have millions to even billions of dollars that could be spared for the players that help keep it going. This is why I think college athletes should receive compensation for their skills. It would help the players continue on in life if they don't proceed of career in being a professional athlete and they work too hard to not get paid.…
