Should Boys Be Allowed To Play Volleyball Essay

Boys fight to play Girls volleyball Many school districts around the United States are not allowing boys to play or compete on the girls high school volleyball team. One of the reasons boys are not allowed to play is because of their muscle mass is much greater compared to girls. Another reason would be the opportunities for boys to play volleyball in general are much slimmer. Lastly there are many regulations rules that play a large effect on the reasons boys are not allowed to play on the girls volleyball team. The first reason boys are not allowed to play girls volleyball is because boys muscle mass is much greater compared to girls. Research shows that boys have “ an average of 72.6 pounds of muscle compared to the 46.2 pounds found in women” (Cespedes 1). This is a huge factor when playing volleyball. On average with more muscle weight boys can jump higher and hit harder. When boys jump higher they can get a better reach on the ball, which
“...the main issue is the net height -- nets for girls games are set at 7 feet, one foot lower than for boys games” (“Anger at two male” 1). This is a very large issue due to the fact the net heights are set for a reason. If the regulation rule board decided to keep the net at 7 feet it would give the boys a better advantage, and if they raised the net to 8 feet it would give the girls a disadvantage. “USA Today reports that if boys are allowed to play on girls team, there are no official restrictions on them playing in the front row. The unsaid rule, however, is to have them play from the back of the court” (“Anger at two male” 1). With the regulation rules that the board has already made they are adding more for example the back row playing idea for boys.
