Should Backpacks Be Allowed In Schools Essay
Students at Southwestern High School should be allowed to carry backpacks throughout the school day because they benefit learning, save time, and do not pose a safety threat.
First, backpacks benefit learning by enabling students to stay more organized. How many times have students been admonished for arrived to class ill-prepared to learn because they did not have the necessary course materials? Since backpacks have multiple pockets and compartments, students can more easily transport essential learning materials like binders, pencils, textbooks, and papers. Students can also organize their supplies by subjects and will have access to homework and assignments during class as well as at home. In addition, the zipper and Velcro fasteners prevent

The argument against backpacks is now justified because students can keep back packs with them and nobody will get hurt. Teachers can set up a designated area for backpacks to got to prevent tripping or any injuries during the school day. Students backpacks will no longer lay about and cause a potential threat to students and teachers safety. We can place them in certain areas of the classroom so that we to continuously ensure the safety of faculty and students. Also back packs pose no greater danger with weapons and or drugs then students everyday purses, gym bags, or even laptop bags. Those items can be just as dangerous as any book bag out there. A bag is a bag, so if you're allowing gym bags, purses or anything of the sort consider that the threat may still remain without backpacks. Last of all having backpacking during emergencies would speed up any the safety procedure since your backpack would be right there with you at all times during the day. If there would ever be a need to leave the school you would have all of your essentials with you so you can grab what you need and exit the building. If you have everything with you evacuating would be much faster, compared to if a student had something precious in his or her locker that they had to

Just watching students in the halls at the beginning of the year will tell you that backpacks are exhaustingly heavy. As Stephanie Kraus’ article “Big Backpacks Equal Big Problems” shows, there is real proof that this is damaging to our bodies. When we carry the excessively heavy bags, it puts pressure on the spine. The spine is important in supporting our bodies, and putting that weight on it can ruin posture, interfere with normal growth patterns, and even cause long term back problems. Over the years backpacks have been getting increasingly heavy, as we struggle to cram the entire contents of our locker into our bags before dismissal. Experts are saying that your bag should be “between 10-20% of your own weight.”…

I believe that high schools should have open lunches. Students should be able to leave the school grounds and go to a fast food restaurant, or, if they choose should at least be able to go outside and eat. Students need to have a small break from school during the day, even if they are outside, they still can take their minds off of school work for a while. Students need to have fresh air and adequate sunlight. Fresh air and sunlight is a proven fact to help students in their studies and it also helps the students concentrate more. I understand that the school staff would not like the fact that the students would be able to leave campus without supervision. Are not the students in high school? Should we not have the responsibility to be able…

Throughout the years, there has been much debate with schools across the country on whether or not students should be allowed to wear uniforms. Through past experience with this argument, it’s safe to say that wearing a uniform is not a bad thing at all. Why? For one, uniforms stop other students from being judged on how they look, two, they save families money and students will not pressure their parents into buying clothes some families can’t afford, and lastly uniforms increase safety and security. So I do strongly agree that students should be able to wear uniforms.…

In school, student's Fourth Amendment rights are limited. Teachers and school administrators are legally allowed to search students without a warrant. Student's basic rights are being violated and it shouldn't be legal. Their rights shouldn't be limited because it invades student's privacy. Also, these searches could be unreasonable and suspicion less. These students can be searched without a warrant. People in school shouldn't have their rights limited and violated just because of suspicious teachers. This limitation of students' rights is unconstitutional.…

The lockers have been given to the students expecting them to take care of it and being responsible over it. What is the need to go through it? I have been given a locker since sixth grade and never once has a teacher much less a principle gone through my locker. If they were to go through my locker it would make me feel like i'm a suspect for something I have no connection with.On our way into school each day student’s book bags are checked each day. There have even been instances in which the security guards have taken over an hour to go through the student's belongings, while teachers, administrators and principals go through without being checked not only is it hypocritical but unjust. Teenagers should be given the benefit of the doubt. I have been present in an event where a teacher unjustifiably read his messages out loud after his phone rang in class without him even having it in his hands. It wasn't in the teacher’s responsibility nor authority to go through his messages much less reveal his messages. We are called the next generation yet we are restricted to are given liberty's by others insecurities. Bang! bang! Children run to hide! Is this something you want the world to know about? Do you want your children to be put in a murder scene or a potential one? Why not allow teachers to carry guns if they're able to? Even though most people think it is a horrid idea; the reality is, that increased publicity has caused people to react negatively. They need to understand that there is specialized handlers training for those teachers that do carry, background checking on the individual applying for the concealed carry license, and the schools are limiting the number of teachers with guns.…

According to the article “Gun safety, Texas-style” an editorial from the Los Angeles times, the article presents that in order to avoid campus tragedy or school shooting happens, the Texas government may establish a law that allow students to carry gun on campuses. As the campus shooting tragedy happened in the past, the law’s supporters think most of times the schools lack of ability to protect students. They believe the best defense way is the students have ability to fight back when students face to gunmen. The purpose of allowing students carry guns on campus is to prevent future recurrence of the campus tragedy. In my personal view, campus shooting tragedy is unfortunate for civil education and we oppose any violence on campus. Therefore, I definitely do not agree students should carry guns to school.…

An advantage to searches on lockers and personal things is the decrease of drug usage. Just by walking by some of the bathrooms in schools, one could smell the cigarette or marijuana smoke. When a school would check bags, purses, lockers, etc., the students are more likely not to risk bringing in illegal drugs or tobacco products. This in return would raise the student’s grades, ensuring better test scores on state exams, SATs, or any other exams. With the test scoring rates being higher, in return, the schools would get more funding.…
