Short Summary: Stone Eagle, Wisconsin
Stone Eagle, Wisconsin – Six Years Later:
These were tough times for Chief Marc Sarb. The twins were off to college, each going their separate way. Luke, took a year off and joined Amer i-Corps. He wanted to serve his country and, also, needed to get away from the academic grind. It was his hope that it would give him a better perspective on what career he wanted to pursue. He knew he was not cut out to work in an office and 'pledge allegiance' to the corporate life. Taking a year off helped him in many ways and at the end of ten months in Amer i-corps, he received $5,500, enough to buy a used Ford F-150. Luke had met a girl while serving and they toured the country, finally deciding to enroll at Eastern Illinois University. Luke wanted

He was thinking of a girl from his past and it hurt him to do so, as well – but for completely different reasons. Ted Gault thought back on Mary Kelly and he found it difficult to relate her murder back to himself. It was as if he was tied in chains and made to watch what was done to her body. It had to have been a monster that committed this act, but there was no path he could take that would ameliorate what he had done to her. Yes, he was insane at the time – but, more accurately he did an insane act, but there were no excuses for him, no way he could apply any thought of justification as to what he did to this girl and for the grief and unknowing, still suffered by her parents. He tried to make a statement with his arrows and, he saved two lives and maybe many more. In the last four years, he had used his arrow twelve more times, the last one had a number 18 on it, but he did not aim for a kill and, thus, none occurred . How did he get to decide, he …show more content…
“Crap. Has to be an old movie. Let me think.”
“I'll give you a hint”, said Marc. “The movie was re-made twice more”.
“Wait, it's from Mutiny on the Bounty. The three actors who played 'Fletcher Christian' were – Clark Gable; Marlon Brando; Mel Gibson. So, it had to be the first one, so it would be “Clark Gable' Charles Laughton and did Franchot Tone also get nominated – all for best actor?”
“You got it. See, back then there were no category for 'best supporting actor. Their votes got canceled out and I think Laurence Olivier, but I don't know which movie.”
“I've got one for you, Marc. Who is the only person who received two Oscars for the same role and then never makes another movie? This is in my top five of all movies.”
“Good one, Ted. Now, what's your favorite movie? I think I know. You tear-up every time you try to describe the scene where Frederick March returns home from the war. His daughter answers the door, and March holds his hand over her mouth. Myrna Loy is in the kitchen and she yells out – Who was that at the door, dear? No reply. Myrna Loy begins to ask the same question, but only gets half of it out. Who was that at …...Frederick March is in the hallway, dressed in his Army uniform. Myrna Loy comes out of the kitchen and that scene tells us more about World War II than any I can think of. Was, it the soldier who lost both his

Abelard rushed in with a wooden bat, with the most frightened look on his face. He told us to get in the corner behind a small closet door, but by the time my little sister had made it, it was too late. The dreaded German soldiers had already barged into the room. They grabbed Abelard, and he had a look of defeat on his face. They shot both my mother and father. I fell, my heart feeling like an elephant was on top of it. One of the soldiers came and hit me with his gun. I remember seeing Abelard jump out of the soldiers grip trying to block them from shooting my little sister, so they shot him.…

She had a drink prepared for her husband before he walked in the door, would sit quietly until he was ready to speak, and continually tried to offer him comfort when she saw he was distressed. Yet, Patrick Maloney, her late husband, yells at her before telling her greatly upsetting news, before callously telling her not to make a scene because “It wouldn’t be very good for my job.” Any person would find this news very upsetting, and making her pain about him would drive us over the edge. Temporary insanity is a rare phenomenon, but her husband’s callous disregard and knowing what would happen to her as a divorcee caused Mary Maloney to plunge into a state of madness. She wrongly perceived herself as having no choice but to kill her husband. After hitting her husband with the murder weapon, a leg of lamb, Mary recalls that “She came out of it slowly, feeling cold and surprised, and she stood for a few minutes, looking at the body, still holding the piece of meat tightly with both hands.” This does not sound like the actions of a cold blooded murderer. It rather sounds like someone who did something not even themselves expected, as if they were detached from their body. It appears that Mary is in shock, unable to believe what she may have done, as many insane people do when told of their…

One aspect of the film that the reviewers found to be positive was the producing by Steven Spielberg. Lyman states that, “It is almost certainly the most intense and realistic war film since “Platoon”(par 5). This shows that this film fits into typical war movies and is exciting and worth it to watch. Another critic agrees, stating, “It is Steven Spielberg's soberly magnificent new war film,” and it is “the ultimate devastating letter home”(Maslin par 1). “Men joined the Marine Corps for many reasons . . . I’d joined up to dodge the draft and ended up being sent to war” (Brady 8-9). This brief yet poignant statement begins the story of how James Brady ended up serving in the Korean War. As a young adult the draft was being reinstated and Brady did not feel the desire to fight in a war. He and a few of his friends decided instead to join the Platoon Leaders Class with the Marines, which had students spend two summers at the marine Corps Schools in Quantico, Virginia. After these two summers, graduates would become Lieutenants, but they could not be drafted. Shortly after Brady graduated, the war began in Korea and his class learned they had to prepare to be sent out. The Coldest War: A Memoir of Korea is a first-person narrative of Brady’s life during the war, including his time as a platoon leader, his interactions with other members of the military, and his own personal thoughts during this time.…
