It goes something like this, but only something because the story has been altered by hundreds of people within the last decade that it’s physically impossible to know which version is actually true: Sarah Dawn was born on a sunny, windy day in a town in Virginia that didn’t exist on any map that wasn’t over three-hundred years old. There are only three left that still accurately portray the location of said town, said town being Bright Mill.…

SMARTHINKING's E-structor Response Form (Your marked-up essay is below this form.) HOW THIS WORKS: Your e-structor has written overview comments about your essay in the form below. Your e-structor has also embedded comments [in bold and in brackets] throughout your essay. Thank you for choosing SMARTHINKING's OWL; best wishes with revising your paper! Hi, Gregory! I am Kobe F., and I am happy to read and comment on your work today. I like your choice of Jimmy Cross for your discussion because he suffers the most important conflict between desire and duty in O’Brien’s story. Below I suggest some improvements to your thesis statement, conclusion, and comma use to help you enhance your paper. The ERF and embedded comments include the draft being on topic and grammatically correct as in “Help Requested.” So here we go!  *Strengths of the essay: The strongest point of this draft is that you start the introduction with “What is more important desires or obligations?” as your most important topic-related question that hooks readers to read on. Well done, Gregory! *Gregory 6001059 has requested that you respond to the Main Idea/Thesis: “Jimmy Cross the protagonist in O’Brien’s “The Things They Carried” is pulled astray from his obligations as a leader and protector by his desires for love” identifies your topic and the story as well as its author, but your thesis statement must do more, Gregory. Remember, naming the main topic, defining the purpose of the essay, and indicating the main discussion points to follow are the important tasks of the essay’s thesis that is best given at the end of your introductory paragraph after the essential background details. Look at this model: The central theme of the novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck is that love and hate are closely related (topic), so the qualities of each emotion [core idea 1(love) and 2 (hate)] and the relationship between the two (core idea 3) will be discussed to prove that they are reversible aspects of the…

"No, no, sweetheart-" She stops herself mid-sentence when hearing what she had just called her, trying not to dig herself into an even deeper hole "Kaitlyn. You're right, in your eyes, I must look horrible, so I don't know why you'd even want to keep me constantly updated if you could." She fluffs up her hair "And I really don't blame you for wanting to get away from all of this." She offers a small smile, still continuing to look at her though obviously noticing that she had been looking down. Hopefully this conversation, would put a little more trust into their relationship . She didn't really want to be an evil or bad force in anyone's life if she could help it, and certainly not someone who would be staying with…

The building I used to live in was beautiful safe and since it was a bit old everyone knew each other. I lived there for 6 years so I considered everyone there my distant family. We all did our laundry at the same Laundromat, shopped for groceries at the same place and most of the kids went to the same school in the neighborhood. I didn’t appreciate the door man in my building who would be there every day all the time to help me with the door or packages, the elderly Liberian who used to watch after me at the library I grew up at as a child, My neighbors borrowing me items I was so too lazy to go buy myself I didn’t appreciate the train being so close to me, the friendly man at the super market, Or My building and all it meant to me. But after my house burned down on July 26 I appreciated it all.…

The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank, is a book consisting of letters written by Ms. Frank as a teen when she was in hiding from the Nazis during World War II. The alternate book cover I created is a drawing of Anne Frank as she writes in her beloved diary that she called “Kitty.” Along with this portrayal of her, I included thought bubbles to depict the many different emotions and thoughts whirling in Anne’s adolescent mind as she wrote in her diary.…

It had been a few months since the incident with the homeless guy and Jacob was back to normal, for the most part. “Hey Jacob! I need help in here.” hollered Caroline from the living room where she was wrapping presents for Christmas. “Coming!” Jacob yelled back. “Will you help me put these presents under the tree please?” Caroline asked as soon as she had been helped up. “Sure honey!” Jacob answered her. As Jacob began putting the presents Caroline had wrapped under the tree, Caroline headed to the kitchen to get something to eat. She got some cheese and crackers and when she got back to the living room she noticed that Jacob was nowhere to be seen. “Jacob!” Caroline hollered through the house. There was no answer. Caroline began searching…

When she finished primary school, she was not able to attend secondary school due to the fact that her parents were saying that she has to stay home and help her mother. According to her parents, a girl’s diploma is a husband. This made me realize that in many corners of the country, there are still people who are facing different social injustices because of things that they are not responsible of. Therefore, people who are aware of this should help ignorant people to overcome their social problems. Witnessing this action impacted my actions specifically because I realized that though parents in urban areas understand the importance of education, but there is a long way to help even rural parents to understand that every child has the right to education regardless of…
