To perceive an individual is to interpret the individual and form an initial persona of them in your brain. The perception that individuals exhibits does not always show the truth. In the short story “Dressing Up for the Festival” it talks about many individuals perception of themselves and how they are perceived by others. The story talks about many different individuals, varying in gender, age, and employment. In the short story, all of the individuals are judged by others based upon their decisions. In the short story “Dressing Up for the Festival”, Carol Shields suggests that how individuals perceive themselves will not be affected by how others perceive
