Leyla started her career in journalism by working as a morning anchor for KBAK (presently known as KBFX) in Bakersfield, California. Similarly, Santiago went on to work as a reporter for KTUU in their Anchorage, Alaska branch and NBC29 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Santiago has been recognized numerous times for her outstanding contribution in the field of journalism. She has been awarded an Emmy Award for her report on California's wildfire in 2011. Prior to working in the renowned news channel CNN, Leyla served as an anchor and reporter for WRAL located in Raleigh, North Carolina. During her time at WRAL, Leyla was awarded Mark Twain award for Best Anchor for her coverage on crippling winter storm in Raleigh in 2014 and an Alfred I. DuPont Award for the documentary 'The Journey Alone'. Leyla began working for CNN in 2016 as their correspondent. She has worked hard in order to secure the position that she is in today.

    Maria Montoya Martinez was from San Ildefonso Pueblo. Born on an unrecorded date between 1881 and 1887 Maria was the oldest of five sisters. She started learning pottery skills from her aunt, at first just by watching her. At this time, traditional pottery techniques were being lost, but Maria and her family were trying to preserve the culture of art. By the age of seven or eight Martínez was making crude bowls and plates of her own. She received a well rounded education by first attending a government grammar and rudimentary school. Maria and her sister were selected to spend 2 of their formative years at St. Catherine’s Indian School. When Martinez returned home, she quickly achieved economic independence by mastering the craft of pueblo pottery. In 1904 she married Julian Martinez and they worked closely together. She created the pots and her husband painted them. After an archeologist had discovered ancient pottery, Maria and her husband were asked to reconstruct the pottery. After much trial and error, Maria successfully produced a black ware pot. She began developing new designs, shapes, and techniques for black pottery. She won many awards and presented her pottery at many world fairs and received the initial grant for the National Endowment for the Arts to fund a Martinez pottery workshop in 1973. Maria and her husband eventually settled in San Ildefonso, where they raised four sons and one daughter.…

    In 1950, Cruz made her first major breakthrough, after the lead singer of the Sonora Matancera, a renowned Cuban orchestra, left the group and Cruz was called to fill in. Cruz was hired permanently by the orchestra, but wasn't well accepted by the public at first.[7] However, the orchestra stood by their decision, and soon Cruz became famous throughout Cuba. During the 15 years she was a member, the band traveled all over Latin America, becoming known as "Café con leche" (coffee with milk). Cruz became known for her trademark shout "¡Azúcar!" ("Sugar!" in Spanish). The catch phrase started as the punch line for a joke Cruz used to tell frequently at her concerts. Once, she ordered café cubano (Cuban coffee) in a restaurant in Miami. The waiter asked her if she'd like sugar, and she replied that, since he was Cuban, he should know that you can't drink Cuban coffee without it! After having told the joke so many times, Cruz eventually dropped the joke and greeted her audience at the start of her appearances with the punch line alone.
