Shoot For The Moon Analysis
“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” This quote is found in chapter 3 of our textbooks by Les Brown. The meaning of this chapter speaks about the benefits of setting short and long term goals, the aspects of effective goals, the importance of goal progress and some of the best ways to fight against procrastination. This chapter has given me the most information out of the rest. I feel that these topics are all important for each college student, because in order to get homework done you need to know how to study, work and not procrastinate. Attending the Pride friday at IUPUC before the beginning of school has been one of the most helpful events. By going to this I met some friends and learned more about the school itself. Although I have made the choice not to stay at IUPUC all four years of my college career, being here my first semester has started me off great. During this event they spoke of how we start and end our four years in the same way. I am just glad I have been able to enjoy my first semester by making some new friends, learning new strategies to working and figuring my life out. …show more content…
Not only in my UCOL class have I learned more about how to accomplish things in college, I have also learned a lot from my communication professor. I had an interview with her on choosing a major, how to do better in college and on how to figure out where you want to be and what you want to be. Also the friends I have met have helped me realize what I really want to be doing in my four years of college and where I should go to do it. One person who has helped me the absolute most would have to be my teacher assistant for UCOL, she from the first day has went out of her way to help me. She still helps me constantly with problems I have at school. I am very lucky to have so many people to encourage and push me to do

Is it smart to set goals before college? ‘‘About half of all students who start college don’t finish. Roughly one quarter of freshmen drop out before sophomore year,’’ according to Career Prep Academy. Twenty-five percent of freshmen’s in college drop out before their next year in college. Students drop out for many reasons and one of these being not setting goals for themselves, many students might believe that setting goals is creating a path to failure and unrealistic dreams, but in contrast setting goals helps students stay on the path to completing college. As a high school senior I sat in my room trying to decide my future in a day among dozens of college pamphlets. Somewhere at the bottom of all of those brochures was one for Motlow State Community College. Not only was it at the bottom of my pile, but it was completely outside of my radar at the time. Now, so many months later, I am sitting in a room on the Motlow campus typing this. I never once imagined myself here. Nevertheless, attending this school and joining the honors program was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Going on outings with other members of the honors program allowed me to get to know my peers, and in turn allowed me to become more confident in both my verbal and social skills. This will impact my future tremendously…

Goals are a fundamental part of success in collage and beyond. Some of the most effective goals are SMART goals. This mnemonic device stands for Specific, Meaningful (Measureable), Actionable, Realistic, and Timed. I have noted the importance of these types of goals and have decided to apply it to a goal of my own. My goal is to “Remain on the dean’s list(or academic merit for co-op semesters) for the entirety of my college career by completing all course work early and an additional 10 hours per week studying.” As outlined in the following text I will demonstrate how this goal is a SMART goal.…

Always wait until the last minute. This may seem counterintuitive, as teachers and parents are always telling students to not procrastinate. However, procrastination is what drives a student to success. Procrastination gives a student the drive to finish that assignment or project that was assigned weeks ago and is due tomorrow. As time boils down, a student’s senses become sharper, allowing them to focus on the task at hand. How can one not enjoy the excitement of completing a project in the nick of time, or the pride felt when they have bested their friends in a competition of who can survive with the least amount of sleep?…

Secondly, being in college classes not only gives the knowledge you deserve but helps keep students open minded and socialized in a college that has a wide diversity of people. Because I was only surrounded by High school students, I didn’t get the feel of being in an actual regular school environment but when I started college I started to interact with older and wiser people and learn from them also. Being in classes with a wide diversity of people gave myself the confidence to be more confident in my own work and to take school seriously no matter what age. By socializing and getting a feel for the college experience broadens the students mind and skills as a…

While I may not be able to go to every social event and every school football game, between working and school I am determined to make time to study for exams and complete assignments in order to keep my grade from suffering. While this seems like a simple task, many college students struggle with committing to studies. At times, this can mean missing out on something fun but by managing the time I have and completing what needs to be done I am able to get excellent grades. Another key aspect in how I am determined to achieve a college education is “to-do lists.” As previously discussed, time can be a burden and fitting in social activities can be challenging. Every week, I create a list of assignments and organization meetings combined with my work schedule with time intervals for when I should complete each assignment. With this quick task, I can manage my time and add in social activities so I still have the opportunity to balance school and social life. When one is set or “determined” to meet a goal, it is easier to do so and after meeting one you are confident in being able to succeed and meet the following. As a result, with an abundance of commitments, tasks, and stress on top of it all, in order to gain a college education, I set smaller goals for myself along with time management skills in order to stay determined to reach my career goals as I successfully complete smaller do-able tasks day by…
