Growing up without my parents watching over me, I had to learn things on my own. I recall using books to fill in the gap; this established a solid vocabulary. The books that I read were not intended for my age group, I just read for fun! This knowledge that I grasped from books translated into my everyday vernacular. Even my teachers took notice of my elevated vocabulary and would refer me to even more books to read. Books allowed me to convert my thoughts into words, they helped me get through life, and taught me the importance of words.

One of my chores as a kid was to vacuum the entire house. Our vacuum was old and heavy, and I thought it was about time for new one. In order to change the situation for the better, I watched Shark Vacuum Infomercials every Saturday (staying up late at night) in order to convince my parents to buy a new vacuum cleaner. I had to watch these boring infomercials for weeks until I was able to get my parents on board. And it didn't help that I wasn't only allowed to watch T.V. Monday through Friday, but this was a sacrifice I had to make.
