Shadequa Coad Research Paper

Graduating with a Bachelor’s Of Science and a Masters In Criminal Justice in 1996, we have chosen Shadequa Coad to receive the Young Alumnus Achievement Award. She has always been passionate, ambitious, hard working, persistent, and honest. Shadequa was always passionate about branching out in the Criminal Justice System. She never had her mind set on exactly one career. She was open minded to trying out multiple careers until she found what she liked. After graduating, she automatically landed a job at Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center in New Jersey. She enjoyed working with the young men and women that came in there. She watched so many people families give up on them, and as a result she was able to pour into their lives. She always made the teenagers there feel as if they were important and encouraged them to continue pushing no matter what challenges they faced.

After 5 years, she
It was a hard decision for her to take the job because she wanted to be at home more with her husband and two kids. However, her husband was comfortable with her taking the position so she did. She worked closely with Forensic Technicians to figure out exactly what caused the murders. She also questions witnesses and collaborated with other agencies to solve the cases. This job not only paid well, but was also an interesting experience. She worked on this job for 15 years, and was rightfully appointed as Chief of Police by the mayor, which is the highest ranking officer in the Police Department. Of course she had to take on more responsibilities, but she has always enjoyed being in charge. As Chief of Police, she was expected to testify before the City Council, the state and national legislative bodies on law enforcement. After serving 5 terms she has retired, and is now interested in becoming a Criminal Justice Professor at Buffalo State
