Sexism In America
I believe that I fall under liberal on the political spectrum. I have very liberal beliefs and I have very progressive ideas and think the government should be more involved in people's lives. For example I believe that the government should be doing a much better job at protecting the earth and implement more laws to save the earth from global warming. Another very important issue that I believe the government is not doing enough to prevent is racism and sexism in America. Both these issues are prevalent in America and I believe that the government needs to do more to address these issues. Since Donald trump has become president I believe sexism, racism, and global warming issues have taken a backseat, to other less important issues. Conservatives …show more content…
There is so much social, economical and political injustice in America due to sexism and racism and it needs to be fixed. According to Kevin Miller of AAUW, “Did you know that in 2015, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 80 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 20 percent?” This shows that not only are women being discriminated against socially, but also economically. Since Trump has come into office he has hired a predominantly male staff. A large majority of people who are high up in political office are men. This is a bad thing because then the government does not address needs of all people only males. This shows how women are being discriminated against in all ways; politically, socially and economically. Racism is also an issue in this country. We see a lot of racism in the news today due to the police brutality that is alive and well in America. The Huffington Post says, “U.S. police killed at least 258 black people in 2016, according to a project by The Guardian that tracks police killings in America. Thirty-nine of these people were unarmed.” This shows that The United States has a problem with police brutality especially against black African Americans. When President Obama was in office he addressed and supported the black lives matter protest, since Donald Trump has been in office he's had nothing but negative things to say about this movement. Donald Trump has taken his immigration policy to the next level. Instead of focusing on bigger and more prevalent issue he wants to deport all hard working “illegal immigrants” and build a cement wall that costs hundreds of millions of dollars. This is just ridiculous, building a wall makes no sense because that will not stop “illegal immigrants” from coming to the U.S. Forbes says, “Although it cannot be proven, analysts believe the majority (possibly vast majority) of illegal immigrants enter America by air.” This proves that the wall is a big waste of money. The wall will also destroy relations with mexico and hurt our economy. Trump has also issues an immigration ban from seen predominantly muslim countries. Not only is this unconstitutional but it is illegal. “the order is illegal. More than 50 years ago, Congress outlawed such discrimination against immigrants based on national origin. That decision came after a long and shameful history in this country of barring immigrants based on where they came from.” Said the New York Times writer David J.

Donald Trump is the Republican choice and holds views which beforehand were only used as internet jokes, which has led many to initial think he was a joke run for president before he realised he could actually win. He believes that a wall should be built on the Mexican border to prevent people from crossing over without earning a USA citizenship, and also thinks that Muslims should not be allowed into the country in case they are terrorists. Some however think that by “build a wall” actually means he will just increase security, among these are Collan H. who says “Many say that Trump is actually going to build a wall, but he won't.” Many criticize him by saying that he will be persecuting Muslims and that his plan of having a special Muslim…

Second, President Trump excuses much of the legality of his executive order by saying that it’s a national security; though it is a fear tactic that he has used throughout his presidency, a few Google searches will confirm that there is not a national security risk. After the attacks on September 11, there were many freedoms restricted for a period while the nation worked on increasing national security and diminishing risks. The terrorist attacks instilled fear towards the entire Muslim community and much of the middle east (Kennedy); however, the nations listed on Trump’s immigration ban are not even the same nations that the terrorists behind the September 11 attacks. After the executive order was signed, a news agency from Iran wrote that…

(John, 2014) Conservatives are ideologically defined by their strict adherence to traditional values and practices as well as their support for little to no governmental regulation and their emphasis on individual citizens taking personal responsibility. Liberals are alternatively defined by their belief that the government should be active in the regulation of the people in order to protect the citizens from the possibility of unequal and discriminatory actions. (Rosalee & Zoe, p134) Liberals are also recognized by their beliefs in the overall equality of citizens, protection of liberties and progressive thinking that is based on the idea that there is overall an essential goodness to the mass populous. While there are vast differences between these opposing sides, it is possible to see how a person may agree with a conservative view of government while simultaneously believing in the humanist attributes of the liberal…

If I were to describe my political ideology, I would consider myself mostly liberal with some independent views. I believe in equality for everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. I think Americans need to be a little more accepting, and open to reaching out and helping those in need. This country needs to continue moving forward and growing, and I do not see that happening with a conservative in charge.…

After carefully reviewing what it means to be a liberal or a conservative, I have found that I have mixed beliefs depending on what the issue is. With that being said, I still tend to find myself leaning a bit more to the left, than the right, making me fall into the 10.9% of the population who consider themselves to be slightly more liberal. What I like about the liberal point of view, is that they are accepting of alternative lifestyles, and the overall freedom to be who I choose to be, and live how I choose to live; regardless of someone else’s traditions. What I dislike about the conservative point of view is their special interest in religion, as well…

“Feminism is the radical notion that women are human beings,” as Cheris Kramarae once eloquently stated. Feminism strives to end sexism and to achieve equal rights for men and women. In America, it has been attributed to getting women the right to vote, being able to run for a political office, and demanding workplace rights. However, sexism is still extremely rampant in the country, especially in the workplace, and feminism is the only way to end it.…

Nonetheless, sexism and racism has played a major role in the development in the Americas. America may eventually shake the systematic inequalities but it will take years of rebuilding, reformation, and overall economic convenience. Women only gained independence from having to marry someone when the market economy required their skills in the mills. The market economy also made the Irish more socially accepted. The slaves were only freed when it was seen as a way of winning a war. War also stripped the middle east of the highest social and political privilege in the U.S., being white. We are still celebrating these suppressions today. They’re extremely present in the upcoming election and elsewhere. In September 2015 canonized Father Junipero…

I agree with you, the media is one of the major causes that sexism and racism are invading the minds of our children's. With a single touch on their phone and computers, kids are exposed to this huge horrible problem. I know that many kids are exposed to this behavior at home but many are not, but unfortunately, they are exposed on the street and social media. I remember that when I moved to the United States I was eleven-years-old and it wasn't until I started school that I began to hear comments about racism when I was much younger I don't remember racism ever being a subject of discussion in my home. My mother always taught us that no matter what the person looks like they deserve respect and we should give that respect if we expected to…

My life is like a 60’s television show. I am pretty much forced to stay home, clean, do my homework, keep my grades perfect, always follow the rules, and never make a mistake. On the other hand, my brother can go out, get whatever grades he “tries his best for”, break the rules without punishment, and learn from the mistakes he makes. Being a girl alters the way rules go for me. It is like opposite day every day for me because even though I am the most responsible, I can’t really go out because I have to stay home and do what needs to get done, while my brother who isn’t very responsible gets to do what his heart desires.…
