Sexism: Discrimination Against Women In The Media

Good Essays
Sexism is discrimination against someone based on their sex. I’m focusing on sexism in the media against women in this paper. Women have come a long way and have received many of the same rights as men, but females and males are still not completely equal. In today’s world the media is used for many things; one of those being influential. I would introduce this topic to an audience who knows nothing about it by explaining what sexism is then showing some examples. Examples are not hard to find. Vogue magazines photo shops their female models into unachievable standards basically killing the meaning of the headline ‘How to Get a Rockin’ Summer Bod.”. Many popular music videos today only have women in them to show off their big butts or big breast. There has yet to be a Grand Theft Auto game where there is a female …show more content…
How the media treats females has definitely affected females in real life. It has caused women to feel insecure and/or like a piece of meat.
Female scholars that are setting out to be CEO or the manger of their workplace are affected by this because men are all in charge and do not take the women seriously. The female scholars have to work harder. Stakeholders and decision makers are affected by this issue in a positive manner, for it is making them money. I think that they should try a different method such as comedy. A pundit should be interested in this topic because their opinions mean a lot and are broadcasted through mass media meaning many people would hear what they have to say. If a pundit spoke on this issue then it would get more recognition.

Ever since the 1920’s women were portrayed as the “weaker” gender in advertisements, which still exists today. Even though individuals have a right to advertise in their own way, the world should ban sexist advertising because women have a right to be free from stereotypes and sexist advertising is harmful to society, especially females, by increasing their lack of confidence. First, most advertisements harm women by generating stereotypes, which construct problems they have to face. Some of the…

You can argue whether or not the media is sexist, about how women are portrayed and used in the media, and how it makes us feel about our selves and how we should be. In my opinion I think the media is sexist as they portray and advertise how women ’should be’. Sexism is one of the 5 major forms of discrimination. Even though discrimination against males exist, it is very uncommon. In fact, sexism towards women have been so strong, there has been 3 huge feminism movements through out the last…
