While listening to episode eleven of the Serial podcast the rumors about Adnan were not connected to the crime. One specific rumor I have trouble with is the one about him stealing from the mosque. Adnan tells Sarah he stole from the mosque sometimes but not thousands of dollars like the person that started the rumor said. However, how does this relate to the crime, it is just a blow at Adnan’s character. If you say that because he stole money that makes him a murder, then every robber will commit a murder at some point and time.…

My favorite movie is called seven psychopaths and it is written and directed by Martin Mcdonna. The things I love about this film is how the dialog was written mainly because its as if the characters speak whats on they're minds no matter how mean or insensitive what the had to say was. Even though the other parts of the movie werent very realistic it seems like thats how people seem to speak to eacother in real…

Since the beginning of time, people have been creating art not just for aesthetic purposes, but as a way to express opinion, communicate with others, and explain the unknown or misunderstood. Often times, artists have contrasting views on the same topic and show this through their illustrations. Portrait of a Psychopath by Krista Gibbard and Confessions of a Sociopath by Jonathan Rosen are both illustrations showing vastly different interpretations of what a sociopath is. And while both images employ the artistic use of color, space, and style to characterize the sociopath, each can be interpreted to have its own unique opinion and attitude.…

This article gives us a more in depth look into psychopathic killers explaining to us that any “normal” person could be a cold-blooded killer. Psychopathic killers are “known to have good personalities that can blend well with society and feel no self-pity and do not value human life” (psychopathic killers hide in plain sight) that is how they can continue killings without having any feelings, unlike the average human who would feel guilt from murdering…

The three theories that I have chosen to compare and contrast are trait theory, learning theory, and humanistic theory. Each theory has a different approach of how to determine how a human behaves. Each theorist has their own way of determining one’s behavior and many theorists believe that they are correct in their theory while another theory is incorrect.…

In the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, by Ken Kesey, Nurse Ratched is a psychopath. This is shown through her lack of empathy or remorse while allowing the aides to be cruel to the patients, her attempts at intimidation and her ways of not settling for anything less than what she wants. First, Nurse Ratched is a psychopath because she shows no signs of empathy or remorse towards the patients. During the novel, Nurse Ratched allows the aides to get away with anything they please. One example of this happening is when the narrator portrays what has happened to the past patient, Mr. Taber: “The nurse comes down the hall, smearing Vaseline on a long needle, then pulls the door shut so they’re out of sight for a second, then comes right back out, wiping the…

I agree with Freud 's Defense Mechanism called Repression. People that are faced with trauma and some individuals can overcome what happened and continue on with their life and others may not be so lucky. Some individuals receive therapy to help them deal with that trauma and others do not receive any help and turn to other resources to block what…

Famous serial killers like Ed Gein and Ted Bundy have turned what we only believed to be true in movies and books, into a reality. Ed Gein, an American serial killer and body snatcher, took corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin. After police found body parts in his house in 1957, Gein confessed to killing two women. Nearly 14 years later, Ted Bundy, another American serial killer, committed rape, kidnap, and necrophilia, killing numerous young women and girls during the 1970s. There have been more recent cases of such unspeakable violence such as last year’s Aurora shootings. Inside a Colorado movie theater, a gunman, dressed in tactical clothing, set off tear gas and shot into the audience with multiple firearms, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others. Just a month ago, moments after killing his own mother, a young man fatally shot 20 children and 6 adult staff members at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in the town of Newtown, Connecticut. Psychopaths are people suffering from a chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior. Such people have devastating effects on our society, particularly through the most unimaginable crime. It is estimated that the prevalence of psychopathy is approximately 1% in the general population, but 15–25% in the USA adult prison population. Compared to prisoners without psychopathy, psychopathic prisoners have significantly higher rates of violent crime and recidivism (Koenigs, 2012). I can’t help but wonder what it is that acts as the driving force to lead someone to commit such unthinkable behavior. It’s important to understand the differences in psychopaths so we can begin to pinpoint the traits of a psychopath and make sense as to why such criminal behavior can be committed, most importantly psychopaths can teach us a lot about the nature of morality. “Inside the Mind of…

Ever wonder what it was like to be inside a disturbed individual’s head and find out what makes him/her tick? To find out how him/her got to be that way and what him/her inner most thoughts and dark secrets are? The people who look just like a neighbor, a parent, or a friend, may possibly be what doctors might call a Sociopath. He/ she are very complex and secretive that to the untrained eye, he/she seems to be in a perfect state of mind; when really he/she is screaming from the inside. Symptoms vary widely with disorder and can be closely related to a psychopath in the works of “The Sociobiology of Sociapathy.” According to the “Profile for the Sociopath”, a person might be a sociopath if he/she: is manipulative and cunning, has a grandiose sense of self, is a pathological liar, has no remorse, has shallow emotions, incapable of love, needs stimulation, lacks empathy, has an impulsive nature, has early behavior problems, is irresponsible, promiscuous sexual behavior, and lacks a realistic life plan(par3).…

For instance, if an individual who is usually calm and mellow turns aggressive during a sports game, is it safe to say that the aggressive behavior is a result of the sport or is that part of his personality? This can be either or. Behavior can be understood by the person’s personality as well as the environments that they are put in, when the situation they are in changes their personality changes to accommodate the situation, this can be classified as situational behavior. Psychopathy is an important construct in offender classification. Although several studies have suggested that there are two distinct subtypes of psychopaths, these studies have considerable limitations, including reliance on self-report measures, a failure to adequately address heterogeneity within the construct of psychopathy, and predictor-criterion contamination. A recent taxonomic study identified four subgroups of offenders, including primary and secondary psychopaths. We used cluster analysis to replicate and extend those findings to: 1) an independent sample; and 2) a PCL-R factor model that reduces predictor-criterion contamination. Additionally, we validated initial results using a novel clustering method. Results show that psychopathy subtypes are replicable across methods. Moreover, comparisons on other variables provide external validation of the subtypes consistent with prior theoretical conceptualizations.…
