Servant Evangelism Report EVAN 101-002

First Encounter
I greatly enjoyed both of my servant evangelism encounters, they were not always easy, but in the end they are extremely rewarding. My first servant evangelism encounter was when I went home for spring break. When I was home my church ran a spaghetti dinner on Saturday night, and me and other kids would serve people spaghetti. I started off serving noodles, and then worked my way down to the garlic bread, when I encountered a lady and I began talking to her and I asked her how she was, and worked my way into talking about religion and Liberty. I then began to tell her what I have learned and stuff, mainly from Dr. Wheeler’s class and my theology class. She said she was confused about God and what he wants from her in her life, and she asked me what she needs to do to grow, because I think she doubted God. I felt very uncomfortable, but God was putting me in this situation for a reason. But I began to tell her that we have to make God first in our lives and that is how we grow. We begin studying and reading the word, and spending time in prayer. I said we have to do this every day, it is very easy to get side tracked with life but we have to commit and put God first in our lives. She was very thankful and I think she respected Liberty even more than she did before. I greatly enjoyed this because I was put in an environment where you have to converse with people because I was serving them dinner. It was a lot easier than just walking up to someone and talk about God. Community service is a great way to spread the word of God and evangelize to people. Also because you are around friends and they can always assist you. For the encounter itself I believe it went very well, and maybe I could have been more prepared but I believed I stated a valid point to her.

Second Encounter My second encounter was a much more intense and nerve-racking experience. On Saturday

I chose to observe a religious setting that was a Deliverance Ministry. In this ministry there belief is built on “Coming Face To Face With Yourself in Christ”. (White, 2013). By being in there presence I could feel that they genuinely loved what they believed in. Inside this social group they called themselves Christians, which are people who profess in the believe in Jesus Christ or follows the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus (Farlex. My experience at Elijah’s Promise was humbling and self-rewarding. It was humbling because for the two hours I was there I witnessed what it is like to have close to nothing. The people who came in looked forward to their hot meal. They had some fun and really enjoyed themselves even though they are not in the best of situations. For this reason, I did not mind doing the work I was told to do and actually enjoyed it in the process. Elijah’s Promise was also self-rewarding because I was able to really get something out of the experience. I was able to be truly thankful for my life and understand that I was doing a good thing for good people. I could tell how grateful the people at Elijah’s Promise were and that…

The first thing Meghan asked was, “Are you one of those Christian people who really believes in God or just one that goes to church on Sunday?” I was surprised at her forwardness but told her that while I go to church on Sunday’s with Matt and my family, I do my best to not just be a “Sunday Christian” and do everything for God’s glory. She was very receptive of my answer but when I inquired to her beliefs, she did not want to discuss them any further. During this, Matthew was very interested in the conversation, but Corey seemed very uncomfortable. He was squirming the entire time and didn’t have much to say after our conversation ended. Corey is not a believer and does not like to discuss his beliefs. Later on, when we were saying goodbye after the movie, I spoke with Meghan again on the topic of beliefs and she gave me her number for us to get together and discuss my faith in more detail. She said that the reason she did not wish to discuss the topic further during our meal was because of Corey. She knew that it made him uncomfortable to talk about it and didn’t want to upset him. However, she was very interested in learning more about becoming a Christian, and allowed me to pray for her before we left.…

To begin, I was nervous about attending a service for a faith to which I did not belong and which was not even part of my heritage. Previously when I had attended Baptist worship, I had gone along or with a member of my family, who belonged to the church. I wasn’t sure how people of a different religion would react to having someone who was not of their faith visiting their place of worship. However, as soon as we walked into the synagogue, the people there were very friendly and not at all unused to having visitors. There was a collection of pamphlets set out for anyone unfamiliar with the Jewish religion and with Sabbath services and there were nametags for us to wear. The people were very friendly, asking us if we would like to know anything more about the synagogue. There were people standing in small groups too talking and catching up with the happenings of the week before.…

I have taken advantage of this opportunity and it has been a life changing experience. As they walk up and receive the food we offer to each and every single one of them I observe them. I can see how sleep deprived they are and how much desperation they have to receive warm food and coffee after a long night of sleeping in the freezing cold weather, even though there are many shelters who take in homeless people many of them are limited to a number of people they can help. I feel the need to serve those in need because I have been very fortunate to receive many things in life and unfortunately not everyone has had the same opportunities to resources like I have. Since I have been fortunate to receive such resources I feel that it is my duty to repay that good fortune by giving back to those in need. Something that impacted me the most was seeing women living under the bridge. There were several women that discussed their experience with me and how they had previously been assaulted. As they would tell me their stories, I felt a mix of many emotions, I felt frustrated, disappointed and sad. Eventually, I would like to make an impact on the way that people live and get them off the streets. People should not be suffering in order to have a roof over their head and especially not for…

The duration of the home visit with these church members was 20 minutes. When we got there, five family members were sitting in the living room. They greeted us in a positive manner, and I was introduced as Cadet Ingrid Moreno from the training college of the Salvation Army. Pastor inquires if everyone was ok, “they all reply, yes. “ Then he said before, we speak to our father," is there anything specific anyone would like to share or pray about. They all answered no, with a smile on their faces. I was feeling a little uncomfortable. My presence may have stopped them from conversing with the pastor. Pastor turn and said to me, “Cadets pray a blessing for this family that God will keep them in good health.” I prayed with confidence in my heart…

When I was finally a senior I decided to change my ministry to help with a local version of Habitat for Humanity. I found out that a local Boy Scout troop would let me help them repair houses even though I was not a Boy Scout. They welcomed me with open arms and we got to work right away. We completely remodeled the house and the old man was so happy. We brought back his human dignity by raising his standard of living. Human dignity is something that everybody deserves but not everybody gets, but in this case the man regained his human dignity and he was so happy that it made all of my hard work worth it. This semester I was taught all about human dignity and now I have seen both effects of it, a man without human dignity and at the end a man with human dignity and it is an unbelievable change. I am so glad that I got to help this troop this semester.…

    Methods to Evangelism

Part ONE - Evangelistic Method #1 - There are spiritual laws that governs are relationship with God. These laws were given in different throughout the Bible. Law one: God loves you, and offers a wonderful plan for your life. In John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” In this verse gave us the solution to all of our problems, He loves us so much He gave us a way out from all of our sins. This was Jesus plan when He came to Earth, in John 10:10 says, “I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly”. The reason most people don’t experience an abundant life is because of the second law. Law two: Man is sinful and separated from God. Therefore he cannot know and experience God’s love and plan for his life. In Roman’s 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” This verse alone states that everyone is a sinner, and everyone fall short of the glory of God. When Adam chose to go on his own independent way, the fellowship with God was broken. Sin became are natural nature in our lives, this is why there’s no one righteous through the eyes of God. In Roman 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death” meaning we are spiritually separated from God. The third law is the only way we could be righteous through the eyes of God. Third law: Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin. Through him you can know and experience God’s love and plan for your life. In Roman 5:8, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation, he states this in John 14:6 which says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me”. God sent His son to break the barriers that separates God from men. Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay our debt. But there’s still one more important law in…

I guess growing up for me religion was never forced on me, but still encouraged. My parents urged for us to trek to service on Sunday morning regardless of anyone’s schedule that day. I once even had to miss an 8th grade basketball tournament in order to attend Sunday school. Growing up I never was a very big “church-goer”, but I felt like I had a good relationship with God, which is kind of redundant because of the whole lesson we’re currently discussing. I always felt that I could be spiritual with having an institution to initiate the fellowship with God. I guess I kind of thought that as long as I maintained an emotional relationship with God, and talked with Him on occasions where I wasn’t asking for anything, I felt like I could then be considered an “upstanding Christian”. I know now that this is very unlikely, and that this was not the most efficient way to maintain a fellowship with God. Church is more than institutions in which you are suppose to be exposed to the gospel; it is an opportunity for people to connect and harness one another’s love for their religion and their everlasting love for God. I never looked at my church this way, and often on Sunday’s, found myself repeatedly looking at the clock to see when 10:30 rolled around and we could go to brunch. I regret this past sentiment and outlook on religion and to this day wish I would have taken more advantage of the resources made available to me in my first encounters with church life. Even now I try to maintain a relationship with God, and look to Him when I am in a time of duress or feel like I need guidance. On occasion I feel guilty when doing this because I feel like I am only talking to God because I am in need. This is a great example of one believing they are spiritual without being religious. If our only purpose to having a fellowship with God is to ask for his guidance and favor in a time of need, then we are straying…
