Sergei Prokofiev was a Russian composer born on April 23, 1891 in Sontsovka,Ukraine.He also was a famous pianist and conductor. His masterpiece included numerous works in many genres: he works were places in in opera, films, ballets, concerts, concertos, symphonies, and sonatas. Sergei was a musical child prodigy, composing his first musical composition at age five. His first Sergei Prokofiev was a Russian composer born on April 23, 1891 in Sontsovka,Ukraine. He also was a famous pianist and conductor. His masterpiece included numerous works in many genres: he works were places in in opera, films, ballets, concerts, concertos, symphonies, and sonatas. audience performance was at age nine. His two older sisters died of infancy. Sergei father, Sergei Alexeyevich Prokofiev occupation was an agronomist and his mother Maria was from a family of serfes. Maria loved music and would play Chopin and Beethoven on the piano in the evening. This inspired Sergei from a young age. Sergei mastered violin, piano, and cello.
When Sergei was seven he learned how to play chess. Which stayed a passion of his until death. He even played against world chess champions and won several exhibition matches. When sergei father died he no longer received financial support but by this time he could support himself with his musical abilities.
Sergei lived in Ukraine, Russia also Moscow,Russia but when the soviet government thought his musical style was against the government he could no longer support himself. Therefore, he moved to Germany, Paris, and the United States performing to earn his keep. During his time of traveling he met and married Lina Prokofiev they were married from 1923 - 1941. He also married Mira Mendelson 1948 - 1953. He had two children Oleg and Sviatoslav. Sergei is acknowledged as one of the major composers of the twentieth century. His works include a march: The Love for Three Oranges,The Ballet Swiet, Romeo and Juliet , the opera, The Fiery Angel.
