Senioritis Essay
Senioritis—a condition that causes college seniors to experience severe apathy, laziness, and an overwhelming desire to fast forward to graduation. For most, this disease strikes during the senior year of college, but for me, I had to experience this ailment a year early. Why? Because I, along with several classmates, took my senior capstone course during my junior year. I was a nervous wreck when I realized I’d have to complete my capstone—the culmination of everything I’d learned in the Professional Writing program—a year before I’d actually graduate. I’d watched senior friends of mine suffer and struggle through their capstone classes with their copious amounts of reading, writing, and research, so I knew what awaited me.

Each year, my English teachers would give various essays, and every time the whole class had no clue what to write. Everyone would all stare at the computer screen blankly, and ponder as to where to start. However, once an idea sparks, the first sentence turns into a paragraph then it finally becomes pages long. Everyone can stare at the screen forever, but the essay will not be done unless you start writing, just like college, and life. However, life will continue whether the first step is taken or not. Essay On Elder Mistreatment

    • 3439 Words
    • 14 Pages

Elder mistreatment is a widespread problem in our society that is often under-recognized by health care professionals. As a result of growing public outcry over the past 20 years, all states now have abuse laws that are specific to older adults; most states have mandated reporting by all health care professionals. The term "mistreatment" includes physical abuse and neglect, psychological abuse, financial exploitation and violation of rights. Poor health, physical or cognitive impairment, alcohol abuse and a history of domestic violence are some of the risk factors for elder mistreatment. Diagnosis of elder mistreatment depends on acquiring a detailed history from the patient and the caregiver. It also involves performing a comprehensive physical examination. Only through awareness, a healthy suspicion and the performing of certain procedures are physicians able to detect elder mistreatment. Once it is suspected, elder mistreatment should be reported to adult protective services (HHS fact sheet, 2005).…

    1. Delict is from the Latin ‘delictum; meaning an offence or ‘wrong’. It can be defined as a situation where the defender voluntarily commits an act or fails to act when the law imposes a duty of care and this failure to implement the legally required standard care causes the pursuer to suffer a personal injury or loss or damage. Negligence is harm which is caused unintentionally. Negligence claims arise because the defender owes what is known as a duty of care to the pursuer and, unfortunately, a breach of this duty occurs and as a result the defender suffers loss, injury or damage. In order to succeed when bringing negligence claim before the courts, the pursuer must show that the defender owed him a duty of care, and that the defender was in a position to cause harm and failed to prevent this from occurring.…

Born and raised in an urban community where a very low percentage of the youth population completed their education due to social and economic factors and a lack of resources is an experience that planted my interest in wanting to make a difference. I, like many other members of my community was raised in a household where attending college was not the norm. As the second child of four to immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic, I was taught at a very young age the value of hard work and education. It was evident that my parents wanted their children to achieve what was considered “unachievable.” In an environment where obtaining a High School diploma let alone a college degree, wasn’t an expectation of adolescents, my parents chose to expect otherwise from the four of us. I owe it to their support and determination that I have completed my bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the City College of New York. However, the drive and determination engraved in me has left me yearning for more.…
