Senior Project Research Paper

I graduated from Moanalua High School with an Honor Diploma because I reached the requirements and I also did Senior Project. To me, Senior Project helped me choose what I really want to become in the future, which is to become a Pediatric Neurologist. By taking Senior Project, I got to shadow my Pediatric Neurologist doctor and learn what he does for a living and what made him want to become who is now. In Hawaii, there are only five Pediatric Neurologist in total, counting my doctor, in the State of Hawaii. What made me want to become a Pediatric Neurologist is to help children that are in need, and I wanted to add numbers to the doctors in Hawaii. Career and life skills must be demonstrated in a workplace readiness showcased in this three-phase process. The three phases of the Senior Project are: Phase One: Preliminary Planning. This includes the Personal Transition Plan, Letter of Intent and Corresponding Documents, and initiation of the Senior Project portfolio. Phase Two: Research and Action. This includes the position paper (argument-based research) and culminating activity (action/project). The culminating activity may have: a career focus, service-learning focus, or a student personal interest focus. Phase Three: Formal Presentation and Evaluation. This includes preparing and presenting a formal 10-15 minute presentation before a Project Panel followed by a question and answer session. The presentation can be done orally, in a creative presentation or in a non-traditional model. After the Project Panel listens to the formal presentation and reviews the student’s portfolio, the panel will make a recommendation on the awarding of the Senior Project credit.
